After you pull the pickup apart, they will be stuck in the wax. Mark them before you remove the magnet! They will be waxy so the marker may smudge off a bit, but it worked for me.

this just confuses me a little , but from what i gather the north poles of the magnets point towards opposite sides of the body

Re: V7/V8 pickup magnet experiments

I'm hoping that the LonePhantom sees this post and chimes in... he's the guru on the magnet swap. I did find this link though, very good info and may be of help:

Re: V7/V8 pickup magnet experiments

cool, thanks FireEagle so what i gathering the north side of the magnet should face the adjustable pole pieces not the lugs.
As long as i mark this on the magnets before i swap , all should be good. just swapping the magnets in the stock V7-V8 set

Re: V7/V8 pickup magnet experiments

Sorry i missed this.

Look at my blog post about the mod. There is an animation of how to swap without getting it wrong.

Re: V7/V8 pickup magnet experiments

Does it really matter whether it's the top or bottom? As long as you take them out and do the turn around like the animation you'll be right.

And if by some small chance you get it wrong you'll be able to hear the error and fix it easily enough.

Re: V7/V8 pickup magnet experiments

LonePhantom,
When you did the magnet swap was the change immediate or did you have to wait a bit for the pickup to adjust to the new magnet?
