Vintage DiMarzios- ID Help
At the guitar shop where I work we found a treasure in an throwaway 70's Hondo Les Paul. While parting out the guitar I was stoked to see the pickups were vintage DiMarzios- the only identifier is a stamped "DIMARZIO PICKUPS USA" (or maybe "DIMARZIO USA"- can't remember). They have braided wire. I'll post pics the next time I change strings in my RT650 where the pups found a new home.
They made the RT what I always suspected it could be, which other DiMarzios and Duncans had failed to do. It's a very bright but balanced piece of alder; one of the loudest and best sounding unplugged electrics I've ever played. I wanted pickups to just PICK UP that great sound, and my problem with DiMarzios usually is that they impart too much of their own sound.
There's no way to tell if the DiMarzios are as old as the guitar, but they're definitely old- any feedback on what they could be?
