What neck pickup to use with X2N?

I have an X2n on the way for my RG550. What neck pickup do I use with this? I have an Air Norton I could use. Would it work? I mean would it be way underpowered? I pretty much use just the bridge pickup and neck pickup alone. I hardly ever use the other 3 positions on the ole 5 way. Suggestions?

Super 2
Tone Zone

I think the Air Norton, being low to medium output, isn't going to balance well with the X2N.

Hmm tone zone in the neck. Has anyone done that? I also forgot to state that it does not have to be a dimarzio.

I've got the super 2 in the neck of my x2n equipped guitar. They blend great. Awesome metal/hard rock tones.

I haven't personally (would love to, though), but Michael Romeo from Symphony X uses the X2N/Tone Zone combo in his guitars.

Re: What neck pickup to use with X2N?

I have the tone zone in the neck on an S mahogany guitar. I think that it is a tad muddy because of the rosewood fretboard. Michael Romeo has a mahogany body guitar and a maple fretboard so I think that it evens it out nicely but with the rosewood fingerboard it makes it just a little muddy. The clean tone is really nice though, nice and bassy with that subtle treble mixed in there.. really great.
Try a d-activator neck, or the d-sonic neck, and maybe even an X2N in the neck lol.
You could use the air norton fine, just get the x2n lower to the guitar and the air norton higher to the strings to help balance it out.

I have an Air Norton in the neck of my 550 with an X2N in the bridge. It balances fine...

With that said though, the X2N is coming out soon.

Any medium to high output pup will balance fine: Paf Pro, Paf Joe, Breed, Super 2, Air Norton, Evo.

Josh Rand with Stone Sour uses a Paf Joe with his.

Re: What neck pickup to use with X2N?

i'd say either the super 2 or regular norton. hotter pickups due to the x2n having so much output.

Yeah and just way too much gain and compression for my tastes. Muddies up my amp. I'm going with some PAF Pros. The Air Norton might stay though. It's a nice pickup (very clear and articulate).

Re: What neck pickup to use with X2N?

Thanks for the help! I actually have a tone zone laying around as well. I just really like the Air Norton in the neck, awesome pickup. I am going to try the x2n air norton combo. If it does not work out I can always try the tone zone.
