What is your favorite pickup setup?

So far I`ve tried a few different pickups and brands. I guess a little on the hot side of things but still manage to get some softer sweet tones too.

From SD Invaders wich I really liked for a while, still have on in my UV77MC and Wolfgang Special. For some reason I`m starting to lean more to the DIMarzio side of things. I`m really digging my De-Activator that I`ve tried in a couple guitars, it will be going in my RG270 TOM project for sure. I`ve tried a few different SD`s, Dime Bucker being my least favorite but still not bad for what it`s made for. I find the DiMarzio`s i have tried have more string to string clarity. just me?

The most fun has been with the setup in my 91 RG750 with the stock IBZ USA F2`s, missing the single coil, I coil tapped 5 positions on the stock switch. At the time it is my favorite axe and setup.

Anyway, what combo`s or pickups do you all like best?

Re: What is your favorite pickup setup?

The new DiMarzio Dominions are fantastic, loving them in my RG450DX.

Tone Zone and Air Norton in my alder-bodied Ibanez style custom rock my world too.

Also loving the new Railhammer pickups by Joe Naylor (Reverend Guitars, Armor Gold Cables fame). The Chisel set are brutal, with massive heavy tone, but tons of clarity and string separation due to their unique rail/large slug pole-piece design.

Re: What is your favorite pickup setup?

Right now my fave setup is in 2 different guitars. I love the Dimarzio Super 3 in my RG2550. It has clarity, crunch, and power, a great metal pickup. For the neck, I prefer the Dimarzio Evolution in my RG350. It'll get swapped into my prestige eventually and my RG350 will have an X2N in the bridge and PAF Pro in the neck.

My favorite switching scheme is on the RG350 for now. The top 2 switches coil tap each of the pickups, the 3rd selects the pickup, and the 4th is a killswitch. The momentary switch that replaced the tone knob is also a killswitch.

p.s. So I'm guessing you'd prefer if I didn't delete that pic from my photobucket account . Also, good to hear you're happy with your setup. I know it took awhile for you to finally decide what to do.

It's between the BKP Aftermaths and WCR IronMan.

Both are loud and tight under a lot of gain but they clean up nicely when the gain is dialed down.

I've heard nothing but good things about the Aftermaths, but I just can't bring myself to spend that much. I wish they didn't seem like they're exactly what I want. I'm sure I'll pull the trigger eventually.

Re: What is your favorite pickup setup?

I always wanted to try those ones out. I mean there's a reason they're put into just about every Prestige.

Enjoy your 350. I like how they're cheap enough to feel confident trying mods on it, but good enough to be an everyday and stage player. Also, if you feel like refinishing the back of the neck and doing a fret level, it'll compete with most Prestiges in playability.

Re: What is your favorite pickup setup?

I'm a tonezone and air norton user; What I love most is the mid position of switch (stock configuration).

I like it cause I play guitar through computer and its dead quiet when sitting in front of the monitor. Tone I get is very usable both clean and distorted (good enough for practice or fun).

If I want to record with other configurations I either have to move away or shut-down the monitor to get rid of noise.

Re: What is your favorite pickup setup?

Tone Zone is too "woofy" for me. I like pickups that have good grind and bite in the mid range.

I agree - that's why I've always liked the Duncan JB series...
