A wiring diagram needed

Im looking for a decent wiring diagram for 2 humbuckers and a YM50 switch. I just want my guitar to be up and running for now, so nothing too fancy is required.

Thanks

Re: A wiring diagram needed

What's a YM50 switch? Is it a 3-way or a 5-way switch? If you can provide some details on the switch I can get you a wiring diagram (or at least conjure something up for ya)

Re: A wiring diagram needed

Its a 5 way, the standard one used by ibanez in the old jems for the HSH layout.

Re: A wiring diagram needed

The RG520 wiring diagram should do for what you're trying to do.

Re: A wiring diagram needed

Is that not the same switch as in this diagram...?

http://www.ibanez.com/wiring/wire.asp?y=1999&w=RG7620

If so, Ive tried that out and it doesnt work - therefore my switch and that one are not the same.

Re: A wiring diagram needed

My guess is that it's a standard 5-way switch similar to stock 5-way switches on Fenders. However, if you can post a picture of the switch I can see what kind of switch is it.

If it is indeed a switch similar to the ones on Fenders you can try this wiring.

On a guitar with just one tone, you don't need to connect the tone pot(s) to the switch.

Re: A wiring diagram needed

The YM-50 is a standard 5-way switch, you should be able to use the RG520 diagram I posted a link to.

Re: A wiring diagram needed

On the 520 diagram,

is the red wire hot, and the white wire the "join" between the 2 coils (what would be black and white on a standard dimarzio pup?

Re: A wiring diagram needed

I know I'm late to this thread, but the switch in the 520 is NOT a standard 5 way switch. (Just to clarify, it is NOT an YM-50)

It's internally "wired" for "special" 2 humbucker/5 way wiring. It says right on the diagram "SC-SWITCH - 5WAY SWITCH FOR 2HUM.

This diagram will simply give you a head-ache if you try to use it with a standard 5 way switch.

To answer your last question, yes, red is hot and white is the coil-split.

Re: A wiring diagram needed

You really can't do much fancy wiring with a standard 5 way and 2 humbuckers.

You would really need a 4 pole switch for that, but in your position, just to get it working for now, I would simply go with a three position type wiring (with no splitting), leaving 2 of the position dead (or wire it so they match the position closest to it) and then order a Super Switch from Stewmac.

I have one in my 520 and the way I have it wired I have;

Position 1: Full bridge humbucker
Position 2: Bridge side single on the bridge, and neck side single on the neck.
Position 3: neck side single on neck
Position 4: Both inside single coils
Position 5: Full neck humbucker

I don't remember how I wired it, but it wouldn't be difficult to find something similar.
