LOL, love the Zakk god status arguments.

I don't care. I think he does have "god" status

This is the first thing that comes to mind. Not only does he have a signature Gibson, he has expensive Gibson signatures, cheaper Gibson signatures and Epiphone signatures. He has a signature guitar at all sorts of price points, including ones for the kiddies. He sits in good company here -- Slash, Vai, Satriani, Dimebag (before anyone mentions that he's dead, from the start there was a MIA Washburn signature and the cheaper Asian-made one).

Not to mention that he has also all but endorsed Marshal MG amps in some of the instructional DVDs he's done.

The man is marketable. Young players obvious like him. He's a good player, good enough for people to aspire to play like him. He has mastered a lot more technique than people give him credit for. He has a well-defined image that people think is cool. His playing style of sticking to pentatonics and the blues scale while picking everything is immediately identifiable.

So, how is he not a "guitar god"?

I never liked Zakk's style at all. I can't even think of any songs by ozzy that I liked after Jake E. Lee left.

And he was in the movie "Rock Star."

In my opinion "No More Tears" was the last good Ozzy album. And that was absolutely due to Zakk.

Re: ozzy's new guitarist (gus g)

Hmmm....I find it interesting that Godly status for Zakk is in question....

1) Integral part of Ozzy's band- one of the most recognized metal organizations in the world.

2) Penned "No More Tears" album-topped out at#7 on the Bilboard 200 and #17 in the UK with 4 Top Ten singles including "Momma, I'm Coming Home" topping at #2.

3) Landed a major role with music and character on Guitar Hero.

4) Has recorded or played live with Allman Brothers, Dweezel Zappa (yes, Steve is not the only one), Damageplan, Blackfoot, Carmine Appice, Britny Fox, VH-1 Rock Honors....

5) Gibson Signature guitars.

6) Epiphone Signature guitars.

7) Marshall Signature amplifiers.

I'd say these accomplishments exceed most players out there. More than enough for me to see him in Godly status. Sorry if some disagree, but it's pretty tough to argue.

lol. i hope you are joking about that vibrato comment. that's probably one of his best qualities imo.

and i'm not sure what everyone is expecting out of gus on a ozzy cd. zakk even complained about his contributions on some of the more recent ozzy cds and i remember at one point wouldn't even endorse a recently (at the time) released ozzy cd. 'ozzy' is a money making machine at this point and no guitar player is going to come in and start running the show. there are too many producers, outside songwriters and, of course, sharon making sure everything is as palletable to as many people as possible. ever think that maybe gus's new image (he doesn't dress or act like zakk in his other bands) might be something he has to do to get his paycheck? it's not like anyone of us wouldn't do the same thing to have a chance to play in front of thousands of people and make good money doing it.

it's just amazing how the guitar community turns into armchair quarterbacks when a new person steps into an established position. you'd think people would be happy that a very good guitar player got a good gig.

Re: ozzy's new guitarist (gus g)

I heard the new song on the radio the other day. Ozzy's voice has been heavily massaged in the studio (and fairly obviously), and I actually heard an old Zakk lick (the one before the ascending bends at the end of the "Miracle Man" solo) in the new song's solo.

I don't think that Zakk is the be-all, end-all, but at least he's distinguishable. The new guy sounds like any number of other players.

the ozzy tunes were already written by the time ozzy snagged gus. it's not like the guitar players have a huge part in writing ozzy cds anyway. the mix/production cannot be blamed on gus either. blame that on his producer. i heard the new tune and while it's not the best showcase for gus (it was still good), it's way better than anything ozzy has put out since ozzmosis.
YES!!!! GLORY TO THE BRAVE!!! I knew i was the only one...that felt this wasnt gus.
