RG5xx, 6xx, 7xx, 1xxx, 2xxx, 3xxx= MIJ
RG4xx, 3xx, 2xx, 1xx= MIK

this is not a hard and fast rule, there are some exceptions, but for the most part this "formula" holds up to MOST RG's

Yeah--RG560s were only made in Japan. In fact, all of the 500 series were made in Japan.

Well I am just looking in general, but one of the ones I was looking at was a RG560. I want to find something in a brighter 80's color, probably late 80's early 90's model. I can ask about the serial number and figure it out, but I was just trying to see if there was a way to figure it out by model number.

The serial number will start with an F. A little more info from you would help us help you: which model is it? pics? Where did you see it?

Is there a site or list of all Japanese models. I have been looking for a used Japanese model and I am having a hard time verifing the orgin without photos of the back of the headstock. It seems that some information I see wil have the same model number but one is Japanese and the other is asian.

FYI, I have been searching
