Yes, you can call Roger Sadowsky for "Tak's old bass" or endorse us!

Re: Mr. Hosono, did you make my bass?

Thank you for making my favorite bass! I always thought the body was Swamp Ash, its nice and light, but the tone is a little thin. The ramp must've been added afterwards - I do like it, although I'd removed it for several years.

Now I know, all I have to do to get another bass of this quality is to become an Ibanez endorsed Artist, or maybe buy a Sadowsky. That should be easy enough m(

That's really cool. Thank you very much for posting your bass pictures. I don't think that wood pickguard is original though. It's looked like Swamp Ash body to me.

Here's all of the ones I took a few minutes ago - this bass is very well played, sorry about the dings and nicks, but it's been gigging with me for 15 years now.

Re: Mr. Hosono, did you make my bass?

I was wrong! I guess I'd never taken the neck off before...It has the Hosono logo on the body and neck and says 25 April 1994 on the body. I'll take pictures and post...btw, that's one day after my 25 birthday, no wonder I love this bass so much.

I don't recall seeing any numbers on it anywhere, and definitely no logo.

Mr. Hosono, did you make my bass?

I have a 5 string bass that I bought used in about '96...I was told it was a custom built bass and it has no identifying marks on it BUT it looks remarkably like an Ibanez bass. The gentleman that I bought it from told me it wasn't an Ibanez, but I never believed him...it looks like an Ibanez...and at the time I bought it I thought he said it was built by Hosono, which I never heard of. Its a natural wood tone, and light, so I think its Ash, and it has Bartolini pickups in it in the PJ configuration, no preamp. This makes the tone a little thin in my opinion.

The neck is amazing, I haven't ever had to adjust it and I would love to get another one just like it. Its got this weird removable 3-piece pseudo-pickguard that's thick and keeps your fingers from digging too deep under the strings and its made from some exotic wood. I think this is a Gary Willis proto-type bass, possibly made by Hosono Guitar Works for Ibanez in '94 or '95, but I only started thinking that after I found Jemsite and read the posts by Tak Hosono.

Regardless, its an interesting bass, great to play, and I would love to get another just like it - can anyone tell me what the closest Ibanez might be?

on preview I found that I cannot post links or images until I have 10 posts, so please reply with questions if you have any and I will post the images when I can.
