Re: EX vs Wizard's neck

There's nothing "strat like" about the EX neck profile

But yeah, it's not as thin as the Wizard.

I played a used S470(?) from the early 90s I think at Guitar Center once. I think that tag said Fujigen S470. Anyway, I think the guy shaved the neck down because at the first fret it was literally as thin as an iPhone. It was thinner than the Wizard I neck that is on the RG750 I got a few weeks later. It was like almost uncomfortable, but I have small hands, so it probably would've been more uncomfortable for someone with bigger hands.

However, I didn't spend much time playing it that low on the neck because it was also scalloped from 12-22 and I had never played a guitar with a scalloped neck before so I spent most of my time above the 12th fret.

Thinnest neck ever, though. I don't think Ibanez ever came out with something that thin.

Here's a side-by-side of my EX1700F neck and my RG350DX neck. From around the 7th fret up they're fairly close. Below the 7th fret up to the nut, you can feel (And see in the pic below) the Wizard thins right out whilst the EX retains a Strat-like profile.

Re: EX vs Wizard's neck

Here you go, the 1993 EX neck from the ibanez wiki:

model, year, scale, width at 1st fret, width at last fret, thickness at 1st fret, thickness at 24th fret, radius.

EX 1993 648mm/25.5" 42mm 56mm 19.5mm 21.5mm 430mmR

http://ibanez.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_neck_types

The thickness is like that of my Viper neck. The radius is as flat as the old school Wizards.

Sounds like a cool neck.

Re: EX vs Wizard's neck

^ Fixed a typo in my post. I meant RT650, not RG650.

My EX is 22 frets and doesn't have a floating trem, so it's probably different than what you're looking at.

Re: EX vs Wizard's neck

I have an 88 or 89 EX that is MIK whose neck is very similar to the Viper neck on my RT650.

It's not quite as thin as a Wizard, but it's definitely thinner than non-Ibanez guitars.

Also, my EX stays in tune like a champ. I'm talking like I didn't play it for 5 years and it was still in tune.

You're probably talking about a newer EX though and those necks are probably different.

Re: EX vs Wizard's neck

I've never tried JPMs, so I can't tell you much about that. But it's similar to a really thin telecaster neck. Rounded and thin. Unlike the Wizard's flat and thin

Re: EX vs Wizard's neck

They are very very comfortable. The one I used to have just had a bit of tuning issues. Tuners slipped.

A little rounder and a fair bit thicker than a Wizard. Not as fast but very comfortable!

EX vs Wizard's neck

I'm about to buy a Ibanez EX 3700. I would like to know the profile of the EX necks. I saw some photos but I'm not sure if they are flat in the back like the Wizard or have a rounder profile like a D, C or U shaped neck.
