Re: FGM vs. S540 differences Yeah, I may get in to this and decide to just put it at stock level. In Khaas' photo, the rear pickup is still pretty high up so what's the point? Although countersunk pickup surrounds would be damn cool! |

Re: FGM vs. S540 differences The entire cavity for the trem is deeper mike,Khaas guitar is setup and you can see how much lower the knife edges are in the body to the standard. I dont blame you for wanting to do it but geez....alot of work. |

Re: FGM vs. S540 differences khaas, out of curiosity, does it look like the trem cavity is lower than a standard S540 as well? |

I plan on mounting the pickups and pickup mounting rings in the same fashion as the real deal too. The last part would be the tremolo. I'm "hoping" there's enough adjustment range in the studs to accommodate the 4mm drop. Otherwise I'll have to pull the inserts and machine out 4mm, then drop them back in. I'm using an Edge Pro for the bridge and I already plan on machining out the necessary areas to give it a normal range of motion. |

Re: FGM vs. S540 differences Yes...neck is normal but everything is recessed lower 4mm or so....neck,pup rings, trem. |

Re: FGM vs. S540 differences Stock S540, 1993 LTD model. ![]() 2010 S5EX1 model, seems like there's a lot more material on the back side of the pocket. ![]() 2000 S1520 Prestige ![]() S5470, photos are a little dark on the bottom so it's tough to compare here without the guitar in hand. I'll take some caliper readings later. These are FGM 400 images, best I could find for comparison's sake. It definitely sits lower. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: FGM vs. S540 differences Ok so there's just more material taken out of the base of the pocket then... |

Re: FGM vs. S540 differences As far as I remember the necks are very similar, the FGM's neck is just deeper in the pocket but the amount of wood for the neck is the same, the pickups were also recessed into the body, including the pickup rings. Otherwise body thickness was the same as the thinnest S series. chris |

FGM vs. S540 differences Does anyone know for sure whether the FGM neck has less material vs. the stock 540 neck or is the neck simply set in to the body further? If it's set into the body further, is the FGM body slightly different (more material) near where the neck mounts up? Or is the pocket simply machined a bit deeper? Doesn't seem like there's a lot of extra material in that region to whittle down. I'm mating an FGM neck to a an S540 body but I've not seen an FGM in person. Thanks in advance! |
