I think I agree with RGTFanatic here. That RG looks like a good buy if the bridge is in good nick. I'd still bargain to try and get it a little under $200. Red guitars go faster too!

Both the 555 and 333 were known as JEM JR's. The 555 saw 3 different tremelo's throughout it's production run. None of them were as good, stable, or reliable as the TRS-101 that's in the 350/450 you looking at. The were the:

Lo-TRS II (1994-2002)
Edge-Pro II (2003-2006)
Edge III (2007-2011)

The 555 DID have DiMarzio Evolutions in it though, so that's a plus

The JEM 333 saw 2 different bridges that, again, were worse than this RG has.

They were the:
1LT1 (2002-2006) this is the worst double locking trem Ibanez has ever used

Edge III (2007-2011) again....pure garbage.

The 333 came with INF pickups that the vast majority of users hated.

The 333 was basically built as a way to compete with the tons of counterfeit "Jem's" that have been flooding the asian market over the last decade.......... you should avoid it if this is the guitar being offered to you.

Yeah I'm drawn by the quick neck, also the maple fretboard is a double bonus. Is there any other similar superstrat style guitar with a maple board ? Maple neck is a must too, I luuurve maple fretboards

Re: Is this an RG550? What RG is this?

I should clarify, the neck is only slightly thicker than a Wizard. It's still quite thin in comparison to your strat or PRS. Additionally, the radius (400mm-16") is a good feeling radius that won't be TOO much of a shift from your strat.

The 400mm radius is my personal favorite. Still flat enough to be fast, but enough curve to help sustain bends and easier chording.

edit: apparently these guitars have the same 430mm radius as the Wizard necks....... a cool factoid I didn't know before. disregard the above......lol

Re: Is this an RG550? What RG is this?

I think $200 CAN be worth it, but more pics would be needed to be sure.

No, the neck is thicker on the 450/350.

Re: Is this an RG550? What RG is this?

Thanks so much guys that was quick. :P
Ah balls, I only noticed it had 22 frets now. Anyway the guy is asking R2000 (south african rand) which is around $200 USD. Anyone think it is worth it? Does anyone know if the RG450 has the same Wizardy neck as the 550 ?

Re: Is this an RG550? What RG is this?

unfortunately, no it's not a 550.

To me, it looks like a late 80's/early 90's RG450. The good news is that it is MIJ, and of the same basic quality the 550. The TRS101 bridge is a decent copy of the OFR. If it's in good shape (the trem) it can be a good solid player. For whatever reason, someone put a bridge pickup (V in the neck....... it should be in the bridge. The INF that IS in the bridge is garbage....... I wouldn't plan on keeping it.

Keep in mind that this is a 22-fret guitar....not 24

With more pics we could estimate a better value. As it stands, I would guess that anything between $175 and $225 would be fair.

It is a RG450- Pickguard Ooops
The trem is the difference between a RG450 and RG550for the most part
