Re: How much is a UV777GR really worth?

I have one in excellent condition. Only a couple of dings, one in the back, the other one in one side of the upper horn, small and retouched, both not very visible. Mint hardware, frets, maple fretboard, etc. If I have to put a price for it, I'd say 3k would be reasonable.

5k is just way too much. I have a dead mint, nos dings, no fog spots, almost unplayed GMC. The same with a dead mint 10th. 5k would probably be fair for those guitars.

DYs are popular at the moment.
This kind of thing comes and goes in cycles.
Some other JEM will become the one everyone wants in a few months and the DY will settle down.

So where's that DY Jem then?

I see a whole lot of those selling (selling, not just listing) for $2200 is more and not in minty condition.

There's an absolute glut of PBK and green dot Universes out there. Plus the new Premium green dot. Simple supply and demand. The prices for guitars that are actually hard to come by have gone up significantly.

I've bought several green dots, silver dots and PBKs between $750 and $850.

I think 5K is too high but I bet if he had it as an auction starting at 3K he'd get bids

Personally I'd put a value of $3400 max on a mint UV777GR with a Pink lined UV1000C case.

It's hard to put an unbiased value on them since I own a mint pair, but I think anything under $4k is a great price for a mint GR, all things considered.

Re: How much is a UV777GR really worth?

Back in the early 90s, all the UV necks were hand sanded quite a bit.
I remember going to different guitar stores and playing any UV they had; they all felt different.
My PWH has a nice thin neck on it and my UV7BK Green Dot has a thicker neck on it.
I’ve played others that were the opposite of mine.

I know Michael at Livewire Guitars.
When he did that GR conversion we got a stack of paint sample cards and laid them on my GR to find an exact match.
The GR he painted was the correct green.
The pickups knobs and switch tip he used actually came from an old Ibanez GR.
They were the old Dimarzio colored pickups just like the ones in my GR, a perfect match.
That is a fine GR conversion.

Re: How much is a UV777GR really worth?

Agree with sebastian on the $5000 UV777GR on ebay, thats going to sit there until the seller opens it to offers and accepts something closer to $3K, it has been there well over a year at the very least. $5000 is wayyy too high a price even for a minty one.

In regard to the one with the neck repair that was just listed on ebay at $2500... also too high of a price. seb's $1500 thought isn't too far off from what I was thinking. that is a nasty crack and repair on the neck. I still probably wouldn't pay the $1500 myself though, it'd need to be lower. I bought my first for $1400 about 3 years ago. Ended up selling it for just about $2500 and it had no neck cracks and was in terrific condition (not mint, but very good).

As for sound, I have had 2 GR's in the last four years and you're right that each of these older ibanez's guitars sounds slightly different, but I don't know that you can say that the differences can be classified by colour/model. Mine have all been slightly different in their own way, certainly not because they had a particular colour of paint on them though.

Playability-wise: my first GR (which Brett has added to his collection now) has the nicest neck I've ever played from one of these UV's (which is saying a lot!), as it was slightly thinner and more flat feeling than the other UV's I have played. My first UV7PWH had a thicker neck and a slightly warmer sound to it than the 777GR's or the 7BK's (green dot) that i've had since.

Re: How much is a UV777GR really worth?

Thanks for the input!

I was curious because I have never had the chance to play one. I have played all the others (save for the REMC) and they are all very similar. However, something that I have always liked about them, is that they all have a different feel. All the necks are varying thicknesses and sit in the neck pocket differently.

Anyway, perhaps in the future, I will consider going the Livewire way. It seems to be the only way to really get a nice one. That really is a beauty!

Re: How much is a UV777GR really worth?

First off I’d like to say I own a MINT! Original Green UV.

That being said $5000 is wayyy tooo high of a price.
When I see a guitar priced like that I say-
“That guitar is going to live on Ebay for a very long, long time.”
No one will ever buy that $5000 GR UV even if they had the money; it’s just out of line.

$2500 for a GR UV with a crack like that is too high as well.
Maybe $1500; it needs a new neck realistically.

UV GRs don’t popup very often.
I can’t think of the last one I saw for sale, it’s been several years now.
I’ve had mine for 14 or 15 years now.
I think I’ve see/heard about three besides these two for sale in the last 15 years.
People don’t want to let go of them cuz they’re cool!

In the last year a guy bought a UV7BK green dot and had Livewire Guitars replace the fretboard, replace the pickups and repaint the body to convert it to a UV GR; it looked spot on!
Check the Livewire Guitars Facebook page; I think it’s still up there.

As far as sound goes, it depends on you rig quite a bit.

I have all the UVs; if they have Blaze pickups in them, they all sound the same.
The maple fretboard makes a little difference, not much.
If I recorded them all, you would never be able to pick out which one I’m playing.

How much is a UV777GR really worth?

Hey guys. I am curious as to what the green Universe goes for in the US. I haven't seen one bought or sold in quite a while. I realize they are rare, but they seem to be just plain nonexistent.

Someone posted one to eBay here recently, but $2500 for a guitar with a serious neck crack seems like a bit much. I see them here and there for outlandish prices like $5000, but of course no one is buying them at that price.

Also, if anyone would like to share their experience with a green Uni, I'd like to hear it! How does it play/sound compared to the other square heel Universes.
