Re: Ibanez RG 7420 - Neck question

Seems like a good price. If it's in good playing shape (or can be brought into it with a few tweaks and maybe a fret polish) then that's absolutely a guitar you'll get your money's worth on, plus some.

Sevens are fun - I made the switch in 2000 or so, and while I still play both a seven string is my primary instrument. The extra range, only five extra notes on paper, actually opens up quite a lot of potential on the neck.

What's the guy asking for? It's a solid Japanese made Ibanez, decent but not exceptional trem, and a very good neck. As far as valuation, it's tough to say, but if you start getting up past $350-400, you might be better off just spending a little more on a 7620 for the LoPro Edge bridge (which is awesome), and better stock pickups.
$200, no case. I may go check it out this weekend. If it's in good shape I think it'd be worth it. I think it'd be cool to have a 7 string on the rack.

it's a 7420...trem and pickup tab routs consistent with a 7420...curious about that neck as neither my 7420 nor 7620 have a skunk stripe at all...probably a different year though...the 7420's are good guitars i just dropped a 7 string floyd rose in mine...the 7620 has a lo pro edge 7 trem in it...d.m.

Here's an 'enhanced' picture to help with identification.

I used to own a 7620GN with a three peice neck just like that one - that doesn't really prove anything, though, as the 7420 and 7620 were both Japanese-made and used the same neck, which is why you see so many people selling "7420 with 7620 neck" guitars.

Either way, if that's priced at a fair price for a 7420, grab it. 7620s aren't quite as cheap as they used to be, but in the wake of their being blown out you could grab a stock one in a UV1000 case for like $4-450, which is obscene for how good a guitar they were; they were the best bang for your buck in the the Ibanez second hand market for ANY number of strings.
Thanks for the reply! Just trying to gather some info before I pull the trigger on a purchase. Any idea of the value of this guitar without a case? Just want to make sure I am getting a good deal.

Ibanez RG 7420 - Neck question

This is my first post, so thanks in advance for reading!

Looking to purchase a RG 7420, and I have found this one for sale. I was curious about the neck, as I have never seen one that looked quite like this. Most that I have seen have the stripe going all the way through the back of the headstock. This one stops before the headstock, almost like some Jackson necks I have come across.

Can anyone out there shed some light on this?
