Re: JS6 Headstock and SN question.

Sadly, a lot of Ibanez fanatics fugazi up their axes because they believe the audience - like themselves - won't accept wear/tear or even natural wood imperfections (read the "js sinklines" thread). The neck pocket crack is case in point. Clearly the logo was altered and the #6 attempt at magic erased... but it's so clearly obvious the axe looks worse as a result. Total refret to me is 99% of the time a dealbreaker unless you absolutely know who did it. You can see a clean headstock from a decade later here, no reason to buy clunkers. Good luck!!!

BTW Takin' A Ride: You are correct. Looking at the headstock in the morning light, at the right angle, I can see touch up on the Ibanez logo. Could be a paint pen but it looks like a marker.

Re: JS6 Headstock and SN question.

What bothers me the most is the glued neck pocket crack. I didn't purchase another JS model about 6 months ago because of the same thing. I think it devalues the guitar and scares buyers if you ever want to sell it in the future.
I'm not sure how I want to handle this.

This is the second JS model in a month that I've had where the guitar had issues that were either undisclosed or misrepresented.

It's just a touch up, probably done with a paint pen. I've touched up logos before. You can make it look pretty good if you try.

Removing the "JS Series" wouldn't be tough either as it would be sitting on top of the finish. I removed a PGM Series from a PGM30 headstock.

Re: JS6 Headstock and SN question.

Thanks Rich.

A number of years ago I purchased a JS1600 from you. I was in a few bands where it didn't fit "the look" so I wound up selling the guitar about 2 year into that because I rarely used it. Big mistake. It was mint and your setup was superb. IIRC I put 10's on it and some minor adjustments and it played flawlessly.

I've noticed that this JS6 also has a small glue patch on the treble side of the body where they typically crack at the heel.
Not thrilled with that.

Thanks again.

Re: JS6 Headstock and SN question.

Confirmed.

just because it was refret doesn't mean the job was done well.

Re: JS6 Headstock and SN question.

I don't know why it didn't post but the heel does have a Red "K" then J S - 6 spread out with a "T" near one of the mounting holes.

Re: JS6 Headstock and SN question.

Thanks guys ! I'm not really concerned with a few nicks etc. because I wanted a player but for a refret (that's what I was told) it should play much better than it does. I'm pretty good with setups and have a USA Tele neck on a Marc Rutters body that plays super. This isn't there yet and it came from builder who said the setup was great. Came with 9's I like 10's and it's still not where it should be. It could be a refret but it will need a level and crown from about the 10th fret up mostly on E,B, G and a bit on D.

Re: JS6 Headstock and SN question.

I see nothing questionable but condition. Neck back has been sanded, etc.

I you attached a picture, it didn't.

Re: JS6 Headstock and SN question.

These markings are all I see. Nothing on the other 3 sides of the heel.

Re: JS6 Headstock and SN question.

Strange it went through but I didn't see the pics until I reloaded the page.

Thanks Rich. The clear coat where the JS Series should be is smooth and the Ibanez logo is raised. The seller who shall remain nameless said "There is also a hint of someone having written #6 on the side of the headstock. I can neither confirm nor deny what that means, or who this guitar belonged to at some point. "

It'a had a recent refret but still needs some attention to play as well as it should.
I guess the neck heel should tell me more.

Thanks for your help!

Re: JS6 Headstock and SN question.

I must be doing something wrong. I can drag the pic to the correct spot, it loads, but then disappears. Perhaps it's too large at 1.5MB?

Re: JS6 Headstock and SN question.

There is definitely wear on the logo, I'd just assume the JS Series was removed, although you can never rule out factory screwup. The #6 is somebodies rack marking so they could see what guitar it was at a glance offstage IMO, although just looking at it should be the biggest clue, pro techs and amateurs like to do stuff like that.

I do have that plate number in my database as a JS6 that was on ebay years ago. There are plenty of them in that 1300 range so I doubt it precludes any of them, although that is the lowest number I have on record.

Re: JS6 Headstock and SN question.

Thanks Rich, the headstock is aged darker but NO wear on the front logo. The JS Series is just not there.
If I've done this correctly here are pics.
