screamndemon69 I have seen the Dimarzio pups in green brand new but have not seen green and black ones like the original GMC. Can these be had new or am I stuck buying them used online or getting them made at a custom shop (Jeannies)? Does anyone know about the middle pup? I know it is a Vai original that isn't for sale new, but what is it closest to that Dimarzio offers that could be used in place of it if I can't find the original? This project is going to take awhile- but will be well worth the wait when I finish!

screamndemon69 Those are definitely good options- I'll look into them. I'm also wondering if a Breed pup in the bridge will sound too bright in a mahogany body? I do plan to add a clear pickguard later on as well. I am leaning towards a pyramid inlay for the neck w/ pearl and abalone. That would give me a different look than the custom GMC job I'll have done with the basswood body and a vine neck. I was told that the '94 -present RG 5xx parts are pretty interchangeable to finish off my GMC project-my biggest concern will be the neck as necks seem to be the hardest parts to find at this point. If anyone knows of any concerns I would have - please let me know. Thanks all- I'll keep you posted and will surely be asking a ton 'o questions about these projects before their completed!

gtrcollectr I have a mohog. RG with TZ in the bridge and the AirNorton in the neck and it is awesome sounding! Very bluesy neck sound and great thick, but not muddy bridge sound..

My first Jems will be handmade customs!!

I am getting a mahogany handmade Jem style body from a classified on this site and the seller is doing a few mods to the body before he ships it. It was made for a hard tail Tele style bridge and is being routed for an edge trem and having another humbucker cavaity added. A monkey grip and angled Jem style jack will round out the mods to give me a very uniqe custom Jem. It will have a total of 2 hums and I'm still deciding on what to fill the slots with. I have an Ibanez S2020ax with a TB5 Seymour Duncan that gives an awesome tone in the mahogany body. Just to have something different from that I'm thinking a TB4 for the lead and I'm thinking maybe a pearly gates in the neck and not putting in a mid single pup. There will not be a lions claw under the bridge so I can modify an edge trem for a D-tuna. The neck will be a handmade custom maple w/ ebony and no inlays and only abalone side dots. Eventually I'll goto LGM for a vine or pyramid inlay-haven't decided which, but am leaning towards a pyramid. The body will stay natural - just sealed. The other project is a basswood body that has a AANJ and is a dead on copy of a Jem body. I'm thinking GMC with that one and it will only be a matter of time to get the right hardware, pups, inlay and paint fob for that one. If anybody knows whether an RG 570 neck will work on that body or any AANJ body would be a great help as I am seeking as much info to finish these projects and locate the right parts. It seems buying an RG 570 used and using the neck, pots, wiring, trem and relevant hardware is 1/2 the price of the new stuf if I don't have problems with the fit. I have been dreaming of my own Jem since high school ('87) and will still find a 777VBK, 7DBK and a UV7BK('99-03) to satisfy my Jem hunger! I will post the pics as they are finished.
