I used mine and my other 7 strings in standard tuning and I used 10's nad on one of my guitars, I have 11's Some guys don't hear the difference between a floppy string and a taught one. The best reason for using 10's or even 11's is not tonal, but the better tension. You'll notice that on crappy 5 string basses, the low B strings sound terrible and lack definition. Many of the better, more expensive basses have better electronics and construction that allows for more proper tension. You can use any strings that you like but 10's are going to get your low strings to sound more defined as opposed to thin strings. BUt a 7620. or 1077 or 2077 should be able to accomodate all of the above tunings without any problem |

I add another spring to my 1077XL, and tune it standard (B,E,A,D,G,B,E) and use 10-60 strings...never had a problem with the bridge. Quite comfy. ![]() |

caprile | I have a RG1077XL with .10's tuned to D (7th is a .60)...feels great. For standard tuning I'd personally use .09's |

Jim Soloway | I play the 7421XL. It's a fixed bridge, and I have no experience with the trem models, but I have mine tuned A-E-A-D-G-B-E using 11's and a 72 for the low A. I've had no problems with it. |

Two hands31 | Yes, you can, you just have to adjust the bridge. You can basically tune it to whatever you want until you can no longer adjust the bridge, or you break a string, whichever comes first. |

XL neck question.... On a 7 string XL neck, can you tune it to (A,E,A,D,G,B,E), the stock Ibanez tuning is a step below (A,D,G,C,F,A,D) and i've tried tuning it to (A,E,A,D,G,B,E) but the bridge seems to rise pretty high. So is it possible to tune an XL neck to that tuning? I use a 2077XL by the way. Thanks |
