If I take the kit to the music store, do you think they can handle it?

V Hi Rich,

I want to do the locking stud mod for my 04 Jem7V wh with Edge Pro, what can I do?

Thanks!

The Madness Here I use d'addarios, so all those colours kind of clash with the headstock colour schemes.

and, as good as my tip was, it's nowhere near as good as your locking stud fix.

Dud that the best tip I've heard yet for the EP. That's genious, wish I had thought about it. Although, I I like my balls at the head, like most men.

Rich Unless you read alot of fprum or actually pull one apart to compare, people will believe what they want to believe. The baseplate is thicker and heavier, the block has to be twice the weight, but then it is the lowest profile ever. 6 of one half dozen of the other I say

RCB OK, usually I would ve asumed it was an Edge, but since the thread started as a comparisson between the edge pro and the Lo Pro, I wasnt sure if you were refering to the edge or the edge pro.

I still dont understand the point of releasing the Edge Pro. I ve heard many people claim its as good as the Lo Pro or the Edge (after the mod), but not many (if anyone) have said its better.

Did I mention the ZR is amazing?

Rich Edge [ED] is an Edge, Edge Pro [EP to me but technically by part #'s EL [figure that one!!]] is an Edge Pro

As a tech I'd take the Lo Pro, as a player I'd still take the Edge.

Meaning the Edge Pro or the old Edge?

Well, sorta. When you get to the point that you realize 75% of all Edge and Lo Pro's need a couple shims to get the radius right it's just a different version of the same, although they usually require more than a couple shims

The bosses that take all the stress are thinner and more prone to crack with overtightening, the ball end loading is a stupid gimick, the tail pieces are now cast into the saddles and aren't near as smooth as the spun tailpieces on a Lo Pro so the fine tuner action isn't quite as smooth, but overall there's nothing "wrong" or "inferior" about it, just a different animal.

As a tech I'd take the Lo Pro, as a player I'd still take the Edge.

Yes, please adriansern . . .

Enlighten us as to how you came to this . . . in what ways is it INFERIOR?

From the few that I've tried (when I was back in Jersey I did 'light' tech work on the side, setups and minor repairs) and the Edge Pros I set up all came back to pitch pretty well.

Pull-up would come back sharp on some, but that was due to the non-locking posts, but Rich has a fix for that, (one did have flat knives, easy to fix).

However, like when the posts and knives on the Edge and Lo-Pro Edge were bad all you have to do is give a quick push down and back in tune.

They also seem, (from what Rich tells us) to have fixed the problem with the saddle inserts.

They sounded fine to my ears, felt nice as far as the feel under your hand and the action of the bar is smooth.

The idea of leaving the balls on and jamming them under the saddles is nuts, since opening the saddle block enough to fit the ball takes longer than just cutting it off . . . but "whatchagonnado?" . . . I string the balls through the headstock anyway. :-)

The only thing I can see is the lack of locking posts, and all you have to do to fix that is call Rich.

Mic
