grrrpoop I've got the DVD and it's fantastic, there's so much additional footage that never made the film.. they cobbled it all together and it's like a mini film all in itself! The chauffer gets high and starts singing sinatra in his underwear

Also, just like on the website, it opens up with them talking about the black screen.. classic..

If you're a guitarist, bassist or drummer, or just generally in a band, and even if you're not.. you HAVE to see This is Spinal Tap at least once..

Gilbertrules: If you haven't seen This Is Spinal Tap, go out and rent it. You WILL NOT be disappointed.
In the deleted scenes footage there's a bit more of Dana Carvey.

This Is Spinal Tap has become one of my all time favorite movies. If ou haven't seen it, GO!

darren wilson When the guys were preparing to make This Is Spinal Tap, they did apparently play a lot of club gigs around Los Angeles to get their chops up. They can actually play. This Is Spinal Tap has got to be one of my favourite all-time comedies.

All three main actors (Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, Harry Shearer) all have quite distinguished résumés.

(IMDB lists Harry Shearer's voice contributions to The Simpsons as: Charles Montgomery 'C.M./Monty' Burns, Waylon Smithers Jr., Nedward 'Ned' Flanders, Principal Seymour 'Spanky' Skinner, Otto Mann, Reverend Timothy Lovejoy, Dr. Julius Hibbert, Kenny Brockelstein/Kent Brockman, Jasper, Lenny, Eddie, Ranier 'McBain' Wolfcastle, Scratchy, Kang, Dr. Marvin Monroe, Jebediah Obadiah Zachariah Jedediah Springfield/Hans Sprungfeld, Additional Voices.)

In addition, the movie has some absolutely hilarious cameos from several actors who were either big names or up-and-comers... Billy Crystal, Fran Drescher, Dana Carvey, Howard Hesseman, Paul Shaffer ("I want you to kick my ass"), Angelica Huston.

Gilbertrules: If you haven't seen This Is Spinal Tap, go out and rent it. You WILL NOT be disappointed.

This I did not know. I knew his name, but not the Baron part. Weird!

Knew this too (talented bloke - makes me sick), and one of my favourite acting roles for him was the 6-fingered villain in "The Princess Bride". Not seen him in many other roles though..

David St Hubbins on the other hand is a very familiar actor, makes me wonder how he has time to fit in Spinal Tap duties..

Jeroenn It's the same guy that plays the doctor in court in "A few good man". I didn't know that just until recently. I though the face looked familiar, but that's all.

I cannot believe it's the same guy from the fluffy hair in the satch tapes..:-)
But I guess it is..

grrrpoop They are a real band.

However, that's only because, due to some legal quirk, in order to retain the name and branding of the band they must tour / create records.

The band members are actually famous actors / voice actors (the bassist works on The Simpsons!) but they're all very skilled musicians.

It's like Satriani himself has said; in order to play that badly you need to know how to play superbly! haha He (jokingly perhaps) listed Tuffnel as his guitar hero in a Guitarist magazine mini-review. That was a coupla years ago tho. I guess he really is a fan if he's played with them

I've got the first film on DVD, and it's superb with lots of extras.

Can anyone tell me if the second film is any good? I've seen the DVD for sale and the extras are non-existant..

Also, just remembered that they played at the Tribute to Freddy concert in the 90's, and I believe they actually did have a genuine technical difficulty with Tuffnel's amp, tho most ppl probably assumed they were taking the p*ss
