Re: Anyone Played a RG321

I just recently bought one of these guitars. How would changing the nut effect the guitar, and what kind should I get?

all in all, its a great basic guitar to modify and make your own. its heavier than my viper, and certainly heavier than my rg 470.
It is definitely. Also as it comes out of the factory it's not too bad a guitar on it's own though if I don't feel the desire to get another guitar soon I'll get some Duncans or DiMarzios in it (maybe in some ridiculous colours for that old skool feel).

What Ibanez should do is bring out some more hardtail RGs but of the original RG shape (as opposed to the RGA series or the RGT hardtail). Maybe with some DiMarzio/Ibz pickups. And available outside Japan.

Re: Anyone Played a RG321

I own one, it's a 2004 model so it's the BKF colour and it has the old Powersound pickups, which I'm not able to judge because I have a Line 6 Spider II amp which makes all my guitars sound good. Nice range of clean tones with a 5-way for 2 humbuckers.

It's definitely the best guitar I've owned so far, not that I've owned anything much more expensive, but it's the best hardtail superstrat I've played within it's price range at least.

What you might notice though is that it's strung with 10-46s (well I assumed that's what they were) which might not be to your taste, but don't let that put you off. I restrung it with 9-46s and the feel is as good as I could ask. Also my band plays in BEADF#B tuning which I don't like the feel of much but the guitar copes with heavier strings okay.

Re: Anyone Played a RG321

Yeah, I noticed that the nut on my guitar kind of sucks. I'm not in a huge hurry to change it because I've got tons of other things to buy first. But when the time comes for me to upgrade the guitar, the nut along with the pickups are definitely up for a swap. I may even install some locking tuners.

Re: Anyone Played a RG321

The RG321 models are great value guitars. However I've found that the quality on the RG321's are a hit or miss with the current production of them. The older ones made out of the Cort factory actually [email protected]$$, but I'm not a huge fan of the ones coming out of the World factory.

I actually have an RG321MH that I'm using for my modular pickup project and if you actually get it, I'd suggest changing the nut as the first thing you do 'cause it's a cheap upgrade.

i own the RG321, very good guitar for the money, impressive playability.

it won't be a matched backup for an RG570 IMO as the 321 features a WizardII neck, you can feel more wood in there.

Re: Anyone Played a RG321

This is a spot of luck

I was looking around for a hardtail guitar and saw the Ibanez RG321. I was going to buy a Digitech whammy this christmas, but this RG321 looks like it has to be added to the collection

Check out the RGA series, I have a 121 and find it just as fun to play as my Jem.

Re: Anyone Played a RG321

nice, thanks bro. i was on the dimarzio site earlier and was actually checking both of these out. ive heard quite a lot about this pickup, and it does intrigue me greatly.

Re: Anyone Played a RG321

I would probably go with an Air Norton or a PAF Pro in the neck. I'd probably go more for the Air Norton just because I like the way that pickup sounds a tad bit more than the PAF Pro.

Re: Anyone Played a RG321

what pickup would you guys recommend in the neck position paired up with the x2n? i play heavy stuff with a lot of clean passages, so versatility is key. im actually surprised at how good the x2n cleans up, especially with some effects added.

Re: Anyone Played a RG321

i just got my rg321mh back from the shop with a dimarzio x2n installed and i am blown away by this guitar. the combination of guitar and pickup has tightened up my dual rectifier beautifully, and i didn't even need noise gate, which is mandatory with the mesa. super crisp highs, crunchy mids, and a nice tight low end. i love this guitar, with a simple pickup swap, this beast has come alive.
