Re: S2170 finish question.

Ok thanks guys, I'll do my best and convince my local guitar dealer to order a few so I can pick one I like.

Re: S2170 finish question.

I'm not sure if they still do this, but Sweetwater started posting images of the exact guitars they had for sale on their web site. Last year, they had two different S2075's. Just as you noticed with the S2170, one looked superb and the other one looked very splotchy and a bit odd. I agree with Aris and Chroma, I would hesitate to buy anything from an online dealer unless you can inspect images of the exact instrument you're buying. Maybe other dealers are doing the same thing as Sweetwater, but that outfit is an exception to many rules.

Re: S2170 finish question.

I've never been a big fan of burly maple. One piece can look absolutely stunning, but the next may look just horrid. I would take the above advice and not mail order this guitar, make sure you see the one you plan to buy in person to make sure you'll be happy with the wood pattern.

Re: S2170 finish question.

I think that you will have to see the guitar "in the flesh". Many times the finish looks vary because of the light conditions during the photo shoot (lighter-darker). IMHO the second picture must be closer to reality. I'm not 100% sure though. Check if there are posts with pictures of this guitar in the forum.
If the spots are your main concern I will have to agree with NeglectedField.

Re: S2170 finish question.

That's because it's not a finish. The body is left unfinished (with maybe some kind of oil/matte coating of some sort for protection). Those spots/rings are the wood grain, which is going to be different each time. It's like a fingerprint. So I suggest if you're considering buying one that you see the exact copy you're getting before you buy it (i.e. don't order online if you're worried you'll get an uglier looking one).

S2170 finish question.

Hey guys, my first post here.

I have a questoin about the finish of the S2170. Looking at pictures of this guitar on Ibanez.com, EvilBay and other guitar store or web site, I noticed that the finish is sometimes diferrent. For example see the two pictures below. To me, the first one looks amazing, the second one looks like vomit. I am very interested in buying one of these but I would have to purchase it from an online store or have it ordered from my local guitar store, I cant try it before or pick on from a crowd of S2170.
