Re: rg 550 mystery.......
My USA Custom RG has no pickguard and is copper with the black headstock-
Back plate says embossed USA, and as does the the headstock USA Custom-
however mine is all very clearly marked-
Not sure about the Japan models not coming without the pickguard-
did you end up buying this guitar?

or if you are into locking trems, swap the trs out for a Original Floyd Rose. The OFR and Edge are argueably the two best locking trems on the market and the OFR has some things i like better: 1. You don't have to replace the knife edges 2: Collar type arm for a tight fit forever 3: Easiest trem in the world to find parts for. You can find them here: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/...base_id/41019/
This seems like a good project guitar. The only thing i would do besides change the bridge is put some pickups in there. I would recommend leaving the single coil and putting in a Tone Zone/Air Norton combo.

Most probably refinished RG470 made in 2000 in Japan.
If it's in good condition it is easily worth the $170.
You can always block the TRS trem if it gives you problems or just set it up well and don't abuse it - it'll work great.

|Kontalonis||most importantly what is the bridge on it? If it is any sort of edge get it, the bridge alone is work what they are asking.|

Swapped neck, if it has the old style heel the neck is a 1990 not 2000(from 87 to 97 the first number is all that matters).
No such thing as a 550 with no pickguard, so the body isn't the match for that neck. Now, they did make an RG550R with a rosewood board, so the neck is probably really from an RG550(I believe white 550s came with black headstocks), the body could be either a RG570, 560, or 760, 770, or 470 depending on certain things/year.
Any more info? Pickup config? Mounting rings or direct mount? Is the neck heel slanted or straight(a 93 RG470 looks like a 570 except the heel isn't recessed)? etc, etc?
