I sold it as a 4mm top, jaxadam had the eagle eye and caught it, as well as the 2120KBB's. Assume most 2000 series with tops are faux.

According to Rich @ Ibanez Rules!, it appears to be a 4mm thick top but in actuality, it's only 1mm thick. I trust his evaluation of it. The thickness of the top is the reason why the guitar was $1150 and $1550.

Nah. It's 1mm apparently. That's why the two pieces are so well matched.
Still a sweet looking guitar though!

1mm just isn't enough!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maple tops were originally added to Les Pauls to brighten up the sound of a glued in mahogany neck guitar with covered pickups ! I don't think RG's have that problem !! That top puts many a PRS Artist to shame, totally awesome !!!!! Isn't it more like 3mm thick anyway ???
Enjoy !!

Well, I guess that's why I bought it and you didn't, right? I'm perfectly happy with the thin top. It's just a mahogany guitar with a beautiful top and I can live with that. I used to own a 1960 Reissue Les Paul so I'm familiar with the tonal properties of a maple and mahogany body. I'll be very happy with the tonal properties of the body on this guitar. It will be a nice contrast to the basswood and fixed bridge on my PGM301.

Shredcows, thanks for the wiring tips. With all the guitars I've owned, I've tried every wiring combo under then sun by now. Heck, I had a 2nd gen Guild Brian May guitar (3 pickups, on/off for each and in/out of phase for each one) but I'll start a thread in the appropriate forum when I ready to tackle the pickups and their wiring.

Sweeeet! The flame is nice and vibrant! I wonder how that beauty looks in real life...

Btw, regarding the wiring... Series/Parallel and a Series/Split switch? Thats a little redundant IMO. Plus, if the S/S switch is active, you can't use the S/P switch... kind of werid aye?
Between parallel and split, the difference is that split is brighter, snappier, thinner and lower output. However, its just by 1 notch... both modes are very similiar, you wouldn't tell the difference live. In the studio recording, aye, there is a big difference as the split has much more bite than the parallel, which sounds like a weak, bright humbucker.
For the record, I prefer split in the neck (if its 22 fret neck) and parallel in the bridge.

You can...
Get a Concentric pot, 500k/500k, to handle your vol and tone.
Then grab a 4PDT 3-way toggle switch, those found on the JPM and SZ series, and wire it for Series/split/Parallel for BOTH your humbuckers at once!

YEAH.

This is what you get when you've been modding your guitar for ages.

The top on the baby is AMAZING! Love the headstock too. I wish Ibanez would do that for more of their models.
