both are 17mm , but somehow they feel different to each other.
Their dimensions are different in other areas.

Rg 520 qs = super wizard not original wizard neck. They do feel damn good though, and quite a bit more stable.

Re: Wizard or Wizard II How do I know?

Do all RG models basically get the same neck? What if any differences are there between the 3xx, 4xx, and 5xx?

Re: Wizard or Wizard II How do I know?

If my memory serves me correctly, the original Wizard Neck (as on my 540SLTD, which I purchased new in '91) was 17mm, and the Wizard II ( as on my RGR570, with Bubinga stripe, purchased '97) was 19mm.

Hope this helps.

I always prefered the original Wizard.

I actually have access to a caliper. I should be able to get it later today and we will all know for sure!

Yes, the wizard varied, but these were stock RG470 necks stamped 550 and were not the AANJ Wizard 1 profile. I owned a 97 RG570, so I'm fully aware here.

The Wizard 1 profile disappeared in 1995(the only RG5xxs being the RG570CT(95) and RG570(96) which both sported W-IIs), and reappeared in 1997 with the bubinga. If this neck is a 1997, and doesn't have the strip, I'm 90% sure it's a Wizard II.

The only real way to tell is to get a caliper and measure the profile width. LOL There's only like 2mm difference.

Re: Wizard or Wizard II How do I know?

it could be Wizard II.

in 97, RG 550 also comes with rosewood board which for sale in european market only, its designation is RG 505 instead of 550. it has the wizard II neck.

Re: Wizard or Wizard II How do I know?

No, it doesn't have the bubinga stripe. It is very thin, so I thought it was a wizard. I don't have another to compare it to right now.

Without a question, you have a Wizard neck there and again all RG550 guitars came with a Wizard neck.

Re: Wizard or Wizard II How do I know?

A 1997 Wizard neck will have the bubinga strip down the center of the back.

97 or later SN# + no strip = Wizard 2.

Wizard twos are quite a bit larger on the bass side than the treble side, as well as most commonly being found only on korean ibanez's.
