Re: DBK vs BRMR

I think the DBK and and BRMR are very close sounding, seeing as they have the same wood, same pickups and (later model DBKS) have the same trem. The only thing that changes the tone is the different finishes and the BRMRs slightly greater body mass. Overall, i think the DBKs finish mutes the tone just a bit, and the BRMRs neck boosts the tone quality a bit. Apart from that, I reckon they are both very simmilar.

PS i like the DBKs neck better, super thin for fast playing

Re: DBK vs BRMR

Here we go again. That subject is an old and long debate that filled thread after thread.

I own a Jem7dbk and personally its one of the best guitar i owned and played.

Now i tried the BRMR a couple of times and 90% both guitars are identical in tone. Hell they got the same pickups and wood. I think the 10% difference in tone comes of the mirror top finish on the guitar and thats it. Doesnt justify the 2k price tag at all. A marketing gimmick.

Some ppl and Jem owners to my surprise, seems to forget that the 7DBK is A JEM that was designed by Mr Vai himself, not to forget the unique ultra thin neck that can be found only on the 7dbk.

And yes i can afford any guitar i want, including the BRMR. I just dont like to be robbed.

Money wasnt an object when i was shopping for a high end guitar. If i remember correctly i tried over 10 high end guitars, 7vw,jackson sl2, BRMR, you name it. And i decided on the DBk for the tone and playability.

You can hear the DBK on my website www.rabihsaad.com

Regards

Re: DBK vs BRMR

it seems most ppl don't want to touch this thread with a 10ft pole.
makes me wonder if you sent a DBK body to a shop for the same cosmetics as the BRMR what the outcome would be? would they sound the same? hmmmm.... i would (blindly) guess they would but of course that is just a guess.

Re: DBK vs BRMR

the PGM is not really like the DBK - so not much of a comparison there. it does sound closer to my VBK though as it was originally.
