Gios can be very mixed. Some are basswood, some are agathis, the spec changes every now and then. The same series from the same year can have different wood depending on the supply.

That said, all the GRG I have encountered are too heavy for basswood. Even cheap basswood should not be that heavy. My guess is agathis actually which can be heavier than mahogany.

Oh yeah, I've forgotten actually the Gax series is equipped with agathis, my gio is a grg

Some GIOs are agathis though? Example being the GAX series, and some of the GRX are supposed to be some sort of alder aren't they?

I too have noticed much heavier/ more dense basswood in some of the low level rgs.

I'm no master when it comes to tonewoods, but I think there's a significant difference when comparing the Japanese basswood to American basswood.

As far as i know, theres "American Basswood" (used in Jems and other good sigs), what i guess and hope would be japanese basswood (used in japanese RGs) and then god knows wheres the rest from...

Its all soft compared to other woods such as Alder.
