Re: RG550 In my experience, the early RG550 couldn't be faulted, mine was built flawlessly. I've never seen a bad one, come to think of it. So based on this, I'd say the original 550 was probably "Prestige-worthy", but maybe in an RG1570 kind of way, being more stripped down and featuring lower quality pickups but still being built well. However, I think the RG750 and 770 were more like the luxury versions of the 550 and 570. The 750 is another guitar I own and I am still playing 17 years later, but it's quite battered. Poor thing. The neck still feels amazing, though. |

Re: RG550 I think the old 550 is the same as today's "Prestige" 2550. MAYBE there is more care given to the construction of today's Prestige line. From a price perspective and materials (exception to pickups and trems) used to construct the guitar they are equal to oneanother. Didn't Ibanez start slapping the Presitge tag on all of their 500 + line about 2 or three years ago? I'm sure this has been debated a million times over, but its my opinion and may not be factual. ![]() |

Re: RG550 they were the best at that time, the only thing that kept them from being "prestige" were the pups but that was no problem coz the V's sound awesome... |
