Re: RG2620 Inlay confusion.

Thank you so much GAZ. I sorta can't believe I overlooked something as simple as an "E" but I really appreciate you clarifying this for me. I spoke with the Manager of the store supplying the RG2620 today and it is indeed one with dots, no binding, and the matte headstock. I guess that identifies it as an '06. Maybe they have an 07' 2620E left over somewhere in the company. Again, thanks!

JB, you should have a PM.

Re: RG2620 Inlay confusion.

The RG2620E (the 'E' is the important bit !) in cubed black from 2007 has the sharktooth inlays and binding, the 2005 and 2006 models in cubed blue and black respectively have pearl dot inlays and no binding.

chances are it has dot inlays and no binding

What's the link to the other thread? I'd like to see the damage.

Re: RG2620 Inlay confusion.

to answer your question : RG 2620 CBL/CBK usually come with dot inlay.

BUT.....

at the local music exhibition this year, the Ibanez dealer was showing a RG 2620 CBK, with ghost sharktooth, fingerboard binding, black headstock with no binding.

For once, I was thinking this is a frankenRG, neck from 2570 body 2620 for some reason, but i did not have any intention to dig some more information on that gutar that day..

Dude, to fix your problem, you must check the serial number on the RG 2620 you are looking at. if the year of production is the same with your damaged 2570, i think you will have same quality neck.

Re: RG2620 Inlay confusion.

I don't understand why you would let them keep it, I would keep both, use the dinged up one as a backup, since its only cosmetic. Are these guys Ibanez dealers? Perhaps they can order a replacement body, if they even do that now-a-days.

Re: RG2620 Inlay confusion.

I would get them to pay for a new body of your choice from **** or whatever, build your own improved version! Never part with a good neck and trem! Its only body damage right?
Easy fix, find a nice jap flame top or something. I would actually enjoy this situation!!! KEEP IT ,BUILD IT!!!

Re: RG2620 Inlay confusion.

The guitar is certainly playable. In fact I bet it sounds and plays very nicely. I took very good care of that guitar, in a year of owning it, it didn't as much as get a light bump against a wall/amp/desk/anything.

I'll summarize, because I already have another several page thread on another forum about the actual damage, and the shop is being good to me, I don't want it misconstrued that I'm dragging their name through the mud on every guitar related board on the net.

Brought guitar in shop in mint condition, strings removed, trem blocked, stock pickups removed, wiring mostly disconnected. With the guitar I brought in a set of SD Blackouts. Asked to have them installed, mentioned they would not fit due to pickup holes being too shallow. Routing was the answer (I've since heard a neck shim is a possibility, although it seems like it would have to be a hell of a shim). 3 weeks pass and several visits/phonecalls occur. I pick up the guitar, there is a mark from what appears to be a slip of the Dremel/router in the body in 2 locations, well through the paint into the wood. Wiring non functional upon testing.

Went back in today, was offered a new guitar and new Blackouts, and received many apologies. All of the new Ibanez's have horrible Edge Zero Trems, so tracked down the 2620 I had played, and that is coming in Friday for me. I have a S2170 they have loaned me, as I expressed some interest in that as a replacement, that interest is gone after playing it.

So yeah, the TL\DR is indeed, it is playable, in fact I'm certain it plays just like it did when I brought it in, and probably sounds a lot dirtier with Blackouts in it. I don't think anyone would accept woodworking damage to their mint guitar back from repair. I'm sure they will sell it and recoup some of the losses, someone who doesn't care too much about looks is going to get a very nice playing guitar.

Re: RG2620 Inlay confusion.

Pickup install involving routing. Slip of the router/dremel/. Needless to say the VGD finish isn't exactly repairable. Should have just shimmed the neck. I'm not naming names out of respect. This shop is going out of their way to make sure I am as happy as possible with the outcome. I have my doubts I'm going to find a neck as nice as the one on that 2570 on anything short of a J-custom though I went through several of the same guitar before I came to that one.

If the neck on this S2170 wasn't so terrible I'd almost take it as a replacement. This Burled Poplar top is beautiful.

So how did they destroy it?

RG2620 Inlay confusion.

A shop destroyed my 2570VGD last weekend and are going to be hooking me up with the guitar of my choice. They have no last model year 2570's with the Edge Pro or this topic wouldn't exist. Now I'm hunting through last model year to find something I like that they actually have left over.

I've got them bringing a 2620 from another nearby location so I can look it over as a replacement. I always liked the 2620 but could not understand the price premium for what seems like less goodies. I've also seen inconsistent photography of it's inlays, some seem to be dots, some shark fins or ghost shark fins. Also wondering if I can expect the same (amazing) quality neck I had on the 2570. The 2620 does not have a binding but I believe it should otherwise be the same...if not there may be a neck swap happening.

Any info greatly appreciated. Back to playing the S2170 Prestige I've been loaned. Boo Korea.

***Edit***

Is it true that the RG2620 was in fact discontinued after the 2006 model year? If that is the case this guitar is considerably older than I had thought. This could effect negotiations considerably.
