. . . you can tell a lot more about a person that shoots a cat with a pallet gun than from a person that doesn't want to hear about it.

You don't need to shoot a kid with a pellet gun to change their behavior. A good backhand will do the trick.

Re: Stripping RG

When I stripped off my old RG560 I used chemical paint stripper first. Light applications to prevent the wood swelling too much, it took the finish right off in no time without the effort of a sander. Once the major part of the finish was off then I moved on to the sander.

Re: Stripping RG

Sanding is the only way to go. If you want a shiny finish over paint or stain either one get some good automotive clear such as ppg or ici and watersand and buff after it's cured. I had this 550 stripped and painted by a local motorcyle/hot rod painter, airbrushing and blue and all. A solid color strip and base clear completely finished with matching headstock and new decal usually runs about $200 from him. *without spaces

Exactly what i did... ill post pics when i get it back (its getting major neck work)... I did the whole thing around a set of pink paf pros i had lying around

Its a crappy body, thats what prompted me into doing it, i might have been afraid on a better piece of wood... but it was easy

I think the sander gives better results even if its a bigger pain in the ass. Plus, try not to burn yourself with the heat gun.
Good luck!
Second that on the palm sander. Get yourself the roughest grit sandpaper they have and you'll take the finish and paint right off it in no time. Finish up with 220 then 400 by hand and you're done.
