I have considered selling it to buy some other guitar or when im into some other scene than rock music. Sometimes I find the guitar looks stupid in black. So my reasons havent had much to do with the actual guitar, just me. And I change my mind all the time. I just have to pick it up and start playing, and I tend to forget all the 'problems' I had with it.

I play lots of styles with it. Latest turnaround(to not selling it) was because I found I actually like the original singlecoils in blues. I never saw that coming - I had put singlecoil humbucker in neck because I thought i want to go towards rg550's sound. But I couldnt, with that pickup anyway. Now I want to try some other singlecoils in it, at some point.

I find it is really well made guitar. It is hard to find a new guitar in a shop that has equal quality for the price. I also like mine because I've taught myself to maintain it's hardware. I think the tie-breaker with rg550 and rg560 is the singlecoil in the neck position. Is this what you want? It took me 3 years to get to appreciating the singlecoil there. I used to envy rg550 for this, but not anymore. Good luck.

560 all the way. i love the 550, have a bunch of them , but that 560 has got good pickups and a cool matched headstock. also, you'll find many 550s for even less than 400, and in case you'll change your mind, it will be easy to sell the 560, as many like the HSS config.

Re: Ibanez RG560 1990

I recently bought and sold that exact guitar in a lefty configuration.

Colour is Lipstick Red is memory serves. Great necks and overall a nice guitar and not a bad price considering where you are and the current going rate for those.

Re: Ibanez RG560 1990

The owner of the 2001 RG550 has just answered my questions... He said that the guitar is a limited edition just because it has a different colour from the other RG550s made in 2001... So that's a "normal" RG550, and not the LTD version.
The guitar looks in good conditions (he used it as a backup guitar), and he's going to sell it to me for 400 (520 dollars) with an hard case. It has Ibanez stock pickups.
Which one should I choose between the RG550 (2001, good condition) and the RG560 (1989, various scratches, used a lot, but with SD pickups...)?
Being 20 years old I'm afraid I'll have to make the Rg560 be refretted in a few years...
HELP!

Re: Ibanez RG560 1990

I've got one of those rg560's, in black. I have had it for 3 years now. It is a nice guitar, but I have considered selling it many times. However, the guitar always turns my head around. It does many styles for me and feels transparent in my hands.

I hope you are happy with yours if you end up buying one.

Sorry, didn't know if you were being specific to just the RG550 or speaking generically.

Yes, that's why I said RG550. RG550LTD is something else. LTD/DX/whatever makes it different from the original version. I could have quoted the dude I tried to answer, as my post easily could be taken the wrong way. Sorry about that. Really, if anything, that era is the part of Ibanez I know.

RG550 never came with sharktooth. Those are for the higher RG7XX series.

If this deal fails, talk to Nuno and convince him to sell you one of his guitars. Most likely worth it.

it depends on what neck. most of the today's RGs (Prestige) have a Super Wizard Prestige neck, while a few others have the Wizard Prestige neck and others have the Ultra Prestige neck. the 560 has the original Wizard neck. specs as following:

original Wizard
17mm @ 1st fret
20mm @ 12th fret

Wizard Prestige
17mm @ 1st fret
20mm @ 12th fret

Super Wizard Prestige
17mm @ 1st fret
19mm @ 12th fret

Ultra Prestige
19.5mm @ 1st fret
21.5mm @ 12th fret

so, the RG560 is the second in order of thinness, just for 1mm.

ps: occhio che "actual" in inglese non significa "attuale", ma "effettivo"

Re: Ibanez RG560 1990

It has the original Wizard neck, same as all the RG's of that era. The guitar looks completely stock except for the knobs, which look swapped off a 550 iirc.

Re: Ibanez RG560 1990

I'm going and trying it as soon as I can (I'll also check the overall condition of the guitar, particularly the neck and the fretboard). Is it true that it has a neck even thinner than the actual RGs'?

it's a 1989, and it's just an RG560, probably CA (Candy Apple), or RR (Ruby Red), the pic is bad. don't let it go, for that price and good pickups. it's also got a matched headstock, which is so cool. go for it!

Re: Ibanez RG560 1990

The owner of the RG560 has given me the serial number: F935486.
Can you tell me something with this serial? He Says he guesses that's a RG560 (maybe there's no name on the guitar, I think that was a common use in the late '80s and early '90s). For the price I said before (450 euros = 600 dollars) he'll also give me the original hard case, and he says the guitar has just been perfectly set up.
