I'd say Thai, Middle Eastern and Indian.

Is Italian REALLY ethnic food? Isn't that one of the major food groups?
What most people know as Italian Food (spaghetti and meatballs with tomato gravy) was actually developed in the U.S. Some think in N.Y. by poor Italian immigrants.
Spaghetti (noodles) is a Chinese invention, and noodles were cheap. Meat was expensive and many grew their own tomatoes and vegetables.
The meatball idea was to make the meat go farther, so everyone in the family could get some meat without having to spend a weeks wages on one night worth of meat.
Noodles was to fill you up, and the tomato gravy was to provide flavor and add vegetables (I know a tomato is a fruit, but you add some veggies to the gravy).
That combination of foods has worked it's way around the world and it's true origins have been blurred, but who cares? Home made noodles and gravy with big seasoned meatballs and Italian sausage....and a nice, sweet Italian (or French) bread can't be beat. Well, unless you get into a lasagna, but we'll talk about that another time.

Re: What is your favourite 'ethnic' food.

I'll eat just about every food on that list, but I have to say 'Italian', what else would I say? LOL
And I mean 'real' Italian, not the stuff you get in cans or at 'The Olive Pit'.
Italian-American is quite different from what a 'real' Italian chef will cook. My mother learned to cook from her grandmother, who came over from Italy and what we ate at home was as close as you could get to the real thing with what's available here. Even had to order some special stuff from the east coast that is impossible to find in WV. (Like a decent tomato...until you've had 'Jersey Fresh' tomatoes, you don't know what a tomato is supposed to taste like. Right Rich?)

Re: What is your favourite 'ethnic' food.

I love Indian, Italian, Japanese, Chinese and some middle eastern dishes, but my absolute favourite is the street food you find at night markets in Taiwan. It's seriously the best food you will find on the planet, because of the competition they are constantly re-inventing the wheel when it comes to Asian cuisine. It's so cheap too and unlike street food in some other parts of Asia the cooking conditions are hygenic and you don't have to wonder if you've solved the mystery of all the missing dogs/cats/children cases in the region.

My favourite is Mexican food. I literally just ate a plate of nachos and I'm also having burritos for supper. If its mexican, I probably love it.

Edit: is there any way edit polls? I forgot to put italian food in.

Italian, American, Lebanese, Indian, Mexican.

That's right, the world famous Scottish dish which, I believe, if it is prepared correctly is illegal in the U.S.

I also love mexican food. Ideally, a mexican haggis would pretty much be my ideal meal.

Papas de Sarrabulho:

Feijoada Transmontana:
That looks wonderful. There used to be a Brazilian cafe near my school and I got turned onto bacalhau and I got a recipe and cook it from time to time. I got confused and called it "feijoada" for years but when I mention feijoada, my wife knows I am going to make bacalhau. Now I know the difference but to my wife if it's cod then it's "feijoada" She also gets chop suey and chow mein confused all the time and orders chow mein expecting chop suey. If she wants "chow mein" then I order chop suey and she's happy. I am of Japanese descent and many get sushi confused with sashimi, and gohan with rice.

This is a very tough one. I love them all but with a slight edge in favor of Indian food. Thai and Vietnamese are also wonderful.
