The paint job didn't come out as well as expected, but what the
heck should I expect with paying a $100 in cash. The clearcoat
seemed to bubble some and there are some sanding marks under
there from wet sanding. I might go a head and relic it for the fun of
it, but it plays and sounds awesome. I'm glad I went with the custom
'54's and not the Malmsteen's. Anyone have a cool relic'ing website
I could look on? Hope you guys enjoy, and let me know what you
think!

Re: Custom Malmsteen strat project

Looks like I'll be getting it tonight!!!! My builder called me on my way home from
work and said that it would be done around the same time tomorrow. The brass
nut had to be scrapped because the neck width was too small. Oh well, I just hope
it plays nice. Post up pics either tonight or tomorrow.

Re: Custom Malmsteen strat project

Thanks Aussie. I'm sending it off to be professionally clearcoated and set up
by the shop just down the street from my house. I'll obviously post up some
pictures when this thing is complete.

Re: Custom Malmsteen strat project

Very interesting project. I've always wanted a YJM Strat. Love the colour you've plumped for.

Re: Custom Malmsteen strat project

Man this makes me GAS even harder haha. I want to make a custom strat but I can't decide between an EVH type strat or an yngwie. Both guitarists I'm not too into but I love their guitars. Are you going to get a Brass nut like what yngwie has? I like the metal nuts, my bass has a chrome one.

Hmm maybe I'll do a scalloped strat, with a floyd, humbucker bridge and some custom paint I want. Possibly like EVH's

Custom Malmsteen strat project

I'm currently working on a project that involves a Mexican strat I had lying around the house the past 5 years.
I'm a huge fan of Yngwie Malmsteen, but I wanted to do something a little different with my guitar. The original
version of this particular guitar had the YJM and HS-3 pickups, but I found them extremely weak for some reason.
I decided to change things up a bit and go a different route, so here are the specs that I'm working with.

2004 Mexican strat - 1st paint layer applied today
color - body will be Daphne blue w/mint green pickguard/selector/knobs/pup covers
neck - mighty mite custom maple 22 fret scalloped neck with reverse headstock
tuners - sperzel locking tuners
pickups - Custom shop classic '54's
Trem - Callaham Mexican Fender strat model bridge replacement - virtual '64
pop-in trem bar
Decal - Offical Ferrari shield decal on back
Neck plate - Wholesalesigns.com - chrome plated

The project should look like this once complete.

I have an update on the project. Custom neck plate on
the body now.
