I use the whole tone scale all the time. The octatonic scale is pretty nifty for impressive-sounding runs. I've also been using the nine-tone (nonatonic?) augmented scale for some time, and have started getting into the use of the neapolitan major and minor scales, which are very cool. Unlike a lot of other symmetrical and "exotic" scales, the neapolitan scales have a rather tonal sound to them.

What I meant was more about to bring out the certain feelings that each of the modes highlights, eg. the lydian gives a kind of magical feeling while the phrygian sounds more exotic and so on.

When it comes to things like that I usually just think of it as adding/replacing another note in the scale. When I try to play those scales they usually end up sounding a little silly, so I just use 'outside' notes when I feel like it. Bending into a diatonic note from an outside note always sounds cool too. I guess you could say I take the Marty Friedman approach; why bother learning all these scales that don't sound good half the time when you can use your ears?
Examples I like to do a fair bit in nat minor is the maj 7th (Obviously), the blues note, and the maj 3rd.

I was wondering if anybody ever has tried to play different modes on other exotic 7-8 scales??? eg. hungarian major, nepolitan minor etc.
Maybe it sound cool cuz I haven't tried it
