Re: J customs In Aus I don't agree with him either, but that's just because I am a consumer of guitar gear who has, from time to time, been interested in an Ibanez that isn't available here in the US. It just seems counter-intuitive to not sell me something I want to buy. But, if I owned a brand, I would probably do whatever I could to build it up and protect it. And we often make irrational buying decisions, so maybe they should be allowed to make some irrational selling ones. ![]() Oh, and I just wanted to point out that Matthew does state that he isn't a big decision maker at Hoshino USA, but his perspective fits Hoshino Gakki's recent actions. Re: J customs In Aus This is very true. If someone wants a dvd movie or a video game or, hell, anything from anywhere, there's gonna be someone to import it. Can't say I agree with [email protected] about it keeping Ibanez's "dignity". Isn't being in Guitar Center undignified enough? Now, this isn't 40 years ago with no internet and we wouldn't even be aware what was out in other countries and the next state over felt thousands of miles away, much less a country like Japan. We're in a worldwide age and there's no real reason to confine things to territories anymore. They should be glad that people outside of Japan want guitars like JCustoms. Wait till they make a JEM that's Japan only. I don't see how it helps a product keep it's value, either. Bragging rights? What the hell is he even talking about? That's just being childish if it resorts to that. |

Re: J customs In Aus I posted earlier in this thread about comments from HUSA employees regarding Hoshino's distribution policies. I decided to find the posts I was talking about (easier with Google than with the Ibanez forum's broken search function!): In the thread "Grab The Popcorn Folks" (http://forum.ibanez.com/Default.aspx?g=posts&m=446031), [email protected] wrote: "IMO not offering everything everywhere (including certain countries) helps hold a products value, when you get something rare, or something that not everyone can get, you can brag more." Then later: "how do you think them europeans feel, maybe they want an X...The point I was trying to make is, not everyone gets everything for a reason. I don't make decisions and I have NO way of influencing those who do... hypothetical... I have 2 products A-is blue and B-Green I realease A to half the population and B to the other half, those in A's area get A, then want B and vice versa, they find ways to do it People in A's area that have B, are very proud of themselves and vice versa this goes on for a year when I develope C-purple D-yellow and do it again Its not saturating a market till your product is worthless, its making your brand last, its buying time to develope more its SCIENCE! AND AT THE END! we make guitars people want and can be proud of, and would like to do so till the end of time, NO not everyone will like everything that comes out, and no not everyone will be happy with what their country gets. bottom line, the grass is always greener!" So his theory as it applies to this issue of restricted J-Custom availability is that if people want them badly enough, they will "find ways" to get them and thus feel proud that they have something that's not available in their country. Re: J customs In Aus The part about Japanese dealers no longer being allowed to export came from this board. I'm in the process of confirming it with Ichyscratchy, but it fits right in with where they have been going policy wise. |
