ibanez rg270

i've seen an ibanez rg270 in basswood body and another one in agathis, but i've never heard of the second one

is it good enough like the basswod?? is there too much difference between the two of them??, because if there isn't too much difference i'll buy the second one and make some changes.

what do you guys think??

Agathis is sometimes called "Tulipwood". It's been used in guitar building for a long time. I believe (but could be wrong) that Burns of London at one time made their high end guitars from this wood. These days it seems Ibanez make a selection of their cheaper guitars from it. However I also believe that ash and alder were used on the original Fenders as that's what Leo could get his paws on for cheap prices and they turned out as great woods.

agathis is of the mahagony lineage. i own one entry level ibanez with an agathis body. it does not entirely emulate its mahagony sibling tone-wise but the similarities are there- warm mid-range, sustain. the entry level guitars in the ibanez range are mostly agathis, it's definitely more reputable than resoncast/ plywood 8)

Definatly better than plywood or (heaven forbid!) chipboard (30 2nd hand strat. operated trem with the claw end of a hammer! )
Its a good wood, but it can make pickups mounted in it sound slightly weaker than basswood does.
