Very Sad news. He has made so many people happy and his work will continue to make people happy into the future. My condolences to those close to him.

Just found out about Herc. Got a story about him from years back. Cant believe it but 20 yrs ago, maybe more, I had an ad in some usenet for joining a band. I'm a drummer and Herc replied looking for a drummer for his Dave Matthew's tribute band. I was totally down for that and met up at his house. I was with my GF at the time and when we entered his place in S Philly, the first thing we noticed was the smell of paint thinner and paint all over.

So, we went downstairs and I saw all these guitar bodies and headstocks all over and he showed me what he was up to. I had never seen that before and was mesmerized.

We got to start playing and his girlfriend was there, she played bass on the same kind of bass that Stefan L played, from DMB.

We ripped thru Ants Marching, and some others and we had a blast. The next thing that happened blew me away.

As we were leaving, his girlfriend asked me for some money, I think it was 20 bucks or something, so I had just met them and literally only had 10 bucks on me and my GF had another 10 and we gave it to her. We left and were kinda numb.

So, a few weeks go by and Herc calls and asks if I want to come by again for another rehearsal. I said sure and went alone this time. I know I have some pics somewhere, but these were crazy times we had.

The memories are vague, but I do remember playing one show somewhere in S Philly, cant remember where, Khyber Pass? Nick's or the Grille.

I also feel that the fumes caused pulmonary issues such as fibrosis. This amount of increased pressure in the lungs puts a lot of strain on the right side of your heart and that can lead to early heart failure etc....

There was no ventilation and the space down there was SMALL. He did have a mask, but he said he rarely wore it.

Amazing talent...well, that's my story with him.
