Jem77BMC - Custom Jem Blue Multicolour

Hello from Australia
Here are the first pics online of my new guitar taken as I played it on the steps of the Sydney Opera House last week Dec 18th.
Thanks to Brian for all his help in making this one!
Thanks also to Kevan, Chris C, and lots of other people for various parts!

It is a Jem77BMC (blue multicolour)

ATD swirl by Darren Johansen
Herc Fede three colour pyramid inlay
Head stock says 'Ibanez Simon Wilkins'
Mahogany body made by Charles Elliot, a friend of Brian Calvert

Dimarzio pickups
Steve's special in the bridge
Air norton in the neck
HS2 in middle

Wizard neck, rosewood fretboard (RG neck)

All other parts Dimarzio or Ibanez derived.

eelblack 12-29-2002 10:04 AM

Wow, thats beautiful!

Bigpops 12-29-2002 10:09 AM

Stunning. THE best looking Jem i've ever seen.

I'd hate to think how much that cost you, with all the shipping, duty, and general 'UK Tax'.

Polaris20 12-29-2002 10:27 AM

Nice guitar...........but who's Simon Wilkins, and why does he get a signature model before me? j/k

davester1234 12-29-2002 10:40 AM

That guitar is brilliant, but I think those shoes steal the show!!

Courjan 12-29-2002 10:48 AM

I'd trade two or three JEM10th s for that (like I have two or three 10ths  )

That's the best swirl JEM I've ever seen, possibly the best looking JEM too :wag:

SalemB 12-29-2002 10:57 AM

Congrats Simon!

When I first saw the pics in davenit's post, I had a small alarm telling me this one was yours. The swirl is simply fantastic. It is without doubt one of my all time favorites.

Jealousy doesn't quite cover it for me. I recommend that you buy a new burglar alarm and insurance cause I want that thing :D

motogod927 12-29-2002 12:18 PM

That guitar is great !! I would love to get a swirl like steves black and orange one. What guitar was that originally?

Joel Lyndgohrd 12-29-2002 12:44 PM

That guitar is just fabulous! Amazing!

Goes well with the EVH shoes!

ScottB 12-29-2002 01:51 PM

Webster's and the Oxford Dictionary have announced the newest word entry into the Enlish language:

Jemenvy: v. The coveting of an Ibanez or custom made Jem guitar, schweeter than sweet, belonging to another.

Example: Scott was jemenvious of Simon's lovely new JEM77BMC.

Congrats and I hope to see it in person at Jemfest!

Two hands31 12-29-2002 03:29 PM

So YOU'RE the one!

That thing is AMAZING!!!!!!

Richelle 12-29-2002 06:01 PM

Great swirl.... Love the colors! 8) I'm also digging the sneaks!

Jem7RB MK 12-30-2002 01:23 PM

Simon,It's good to see it's all finally together :-) I'm not much jealous...Honest ;-)

I suppose i *am* forced to get to Jemfest this year after missing out on the last one.

The Euphor 12-30-2002 03:04 PM

Good one, Simon!
I also like the shoes better than the hunk. Richelle, where's your glasses?
A closeup of the inlays would be nice. What's the next color to emerge as a custom?

In the words of the guys from WAYNE'S WORLD:

SCHWANG! :P

bpd111 12-30-2002 03:34 PM

DUH! Had I seen two post above I would've kept my fingers shut!

Ekim 12-30-2002 09:10 PM

Man! That's gorgeous! (But I'd take a 10th over it anyday, sorry!)

I actually wondered about that combination (a blue multi) a long time ago, after seeing my first GMCs.

So, now the questions:

1: How many shades are in that swirl?

and

2: What shades would those be? It looks like white, black and various blue shades in between. More details, please!

btw, in regards to that swirl: :wag: :wag: :wag: :wag: :wag: :wag: :wag: :wag: :wag: :wag: :wag:

cerealk 12-31-2002 12:26 AM

Thanks for all the great comments guys!

Close up pics will appear next week when I am back in England. I land in London next week 8th Jan.

Cost break down will also be posted then when I can check properly at home!

The Converse are standard "Chuck Taylor's" (bought in Boston btw) that I painted myself with a design borrowed from EVH!
BTW his also have a couple of black lines as well as the white.

Swirl details
White is the base coat that the swirl goes on.
I asked Darren for (and sent him the colours):
Very dark blue
Medium darkness blue
Another blue
Pastel very light blue

no black!

I think Darren may have added another so there are five blues in there.

The guitar has no serial number (natch) and I forgot to mention the hardware is cosmo black (new from Ibanez UK).

Who is Jeff Spicoli?

Thanks again for the great comments everybody :)

Did I mention the body is mahogany? ;)

best wishes and happy new year

Simon in Oz

Pablo 12-31-2002 05:10 AM

Those have to be the cheesiest grins I've seen in a while.

But who can blame you ?

Nice guit dude, I look forward to seeing it sometime soon.

VanWyck 12-31-2002 12:08 PM

Rent "Fast Times at Ridgemont High", an 80's teen-type summer flick. Jeff Spicoli is the penultimate surfer/burnout - played by Sean Penn.

"All I need is a tasty buzz and some righteous waves" ... And my JEM!

8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
