Aha. Thanks for the info from both you and LonePhantom. I had no idea the body was smaller! Weird! It's a nice little player though... I suppose next time I'll just keep an eye out for an older 550. I'm really wanting a roadflare next time. :)

It isn't. There's actually more wood in my RG350 than in my Japanese RGs.

There's no difference in body thickness but the front, rear and heel contours are less pronounced on the RG350 (the more wood you remove, the longer it takes to produce).

Ah that makes sense.

That's what I thought, they definitely aren't smaller. Just less contoured.

My 270 and 350 are smaller than my japanese rgs all around the body by a few millimeters. It may not be the same case on the newest body's but I don't have one to compare them too. Mind you most my rg's are older guitars with original edge tremolo in them too. Alot has changed at ibanez since then.

I'm curious now... I'm gonna check for sure when my buddy gets his 750 in a few days.

Ok..so a better question would be; would a Prestige AANJ fit in the 350 body cavity? I've never had a spare laying around to try it. Today my old music store just got in a 350MYE and (because I used to work there) offered it to me for $299 and I think ima hop on that one! Its just too dang yellow to pass up!

The quick answer is "most likely."

I've got my RG2020x here next to my son's brand new RG350DX. Aside from some minor shaping, the bolt holes appear as though they'd line up perfectly. I'm not in the mood to pull a neck swap in the interest of proving myself wrong, so your mileage may vary. I'll just say that it seems promising that a prestige neck swap is doable.

Prestige AANJ will fit the neck cavity but the holes don't match. One hole is way off and the other three are about half a hole off. You will have to fill and re drill the neck. A team j craft Pestige neck, the ones with the two thin dark stripes are slightly wider and will not fit without widening the neck pocket. The amount you have to remove is about the thickness of the two dark stripes and may just be some paint has to be filed off the body. I've done this once and will never do it again .

Re: RG350MYE neck/bridge fit question

That's what I thought. I was under the impression most MII and MIJ RG's would fit almost any MIJ AANJ Prestige neck. The exception of course being S-Series necks; fitting only S-series, and Jem's which are only Jem fitted...someone else mentioned MIK fitted guitars which may have slightly bulkier heels on the actual neck (not the body...) But I have never dissected a MIK guitar, just played them.

I figured if anything, a MIJ prestige neck might sit a little lower in the cavity than a MII and might take a small spacer if anything...but that may be it. My PGM301 and MII 350DX have identical bolt holes (but the 350DX's neck top comes over higher than the PGM's...) I've also never put my PGM neck on my 350DX...

8O Jump on it man!

Did you happen to pick it up and play it? You'll see what I mean about the neck feeling bigger. It took me a little while to get used to it. I'm glad I stuck with it though. It plays wonderfully!

It feels bigger because it *is* bigger. The RG350 ships with a Wizard II neck, while the RG550 had an original Wizard profile. The original Wizard was thinner and flatter then the WizII.

Looks cool.

Sorry you don't like it, but playability comes over looks any day. Sell it and get a second hand 550 DY.

Oh I do like it. I like it a lot! I just mainly have a problem with the bridge. I'd love to get a Floyd on it.

Re: RG350MYE neck/bridge fit question

Forget the Floyd Rose, save your money and get a Gotoh Floyd Rose if you want an upgrade. Will probably need to do a little work to the cavity for either trem though.
