Sounds like it could be a bad/cold solder joint or a loose wire causing the problem. Double check all your joints. Loose wire(s) should be easy to spot but cold solders aren't always visually...

The heel joint is your typical square heel.

The neck is beefy like a baseball bat too. It's not uncomfortable to play but it's no shredder neck either. For me it feels really nice for chording...
