Re: Who Here Uses Fanned Frets?

So you find fanned fret guitars to be more comfortable?

Supposedly? Does this mean you never switched to fanned fret?

Re: Who Here Uses Fanned Frets?

Yes, that is the basic idea. Plenty other threads on the 'Net where the OP brings up "fanned frets", then the speculative replies ensue.

Re: Who Here Uses Fanned Frets?

Nice pic. Is it yours?

The low strings have a longer scale, the higher strings have a shorter scale.

With a longer scale, there is higher tension. With thicker strings, there is higher...

Who Here Uses Fanned Frets?

I'm considering getting a guitar build from a local builder.

I wonder about using fanned frets. I'm particular about the tension of strings; it makes a difference in tone and feel. With a larger...

Re: Idealism and Problem Solving vs. How to Make a Buck

Me neither.

That's the problem. And the 'A' String is too tight compared to the low E string.

The problem with getting tigher B and E strings is that overall tension is affected. If you've...

Re: Loose trem arm

Those plastics really don't help much, do they?

You can try using a piece of plastic cellophane, from a string wrapper. Thats what I use. It usually doesn't last that long.

The screw-in trem...

Re: String Tension Charts

Compare to a normal set of 9-42, that's barely less tension on the high E (1.5 step bends will be less likely to peel back my fingernail) and a "normal" feeling B string (I've always hated the...

Re: String Tension Charts

Dee,

Can you post up tension for this set of strings?

Scale: 25.5"
Tuning: Eb, tuned step down

Eb: .009.5" [PL] = 13.04 pounds
Bb: .013" [PL] = 13.70 pounds

Re: Your string guages are wrong!

That may be true, and it seems like it would be true though I don't know because I can't actually measure the tension.

This chart didn't really make any sense to me:...

Re: String Tension Charts

I found 10's in Eb sound and feel good. I don't know what the "on paper" tension is though.

Thumbs down Re: Video Recorder with Good Sound

Being deliberately obtuse is never a good thing.

Great.

But that isn't what I asked.

Re: Your string guages are wrong!

Best thing is 10's in Eb. The tension is progressively lighter in a pretty even manner. Thicker sound. Longer lasting. Progressive tension from E - E.

For 9's you can do what I do and use a 11.5...

Re: New Trems For 2008

I have disliked most of the screw -in trems I've used except one. I can say that that one I liked a lot. I liked being able to adjust the tightness so that the bar would stay where I left it but...

Paul Gilbert MP3s?

I just ordered CDs from Amazon. I could not find PG MP3's anywhere. I even bought shawn lane and rusty cooley off itunes but they have no PG or RacerX (except a few tracks on compilation CDs).

Re: Where are the maple fretboards?

There's a reason people like (an Ibanez makes) the AANJ.

Keep practicing. If/when you make it to those higher frets, then maybe you'll see why.

Re: Where are the maple fretboards?

The indonesian models aren't quite as high quality. Have you tried them?

I like the 5 piece wizard necks. I like the fretwork on the prestige and J-Customs. I like maple boards, too.

Re: Where are the maple fretboards?

When Ibanez makes an RG with a wizard neck, maple board, and AANJ, (and possibly maple top), sellers will probably be "forced" to charge more to to meet the demand. Conspiracy theory? We'll see.
