Re: 1991 RG550 Neck Set Up

When you say "first fret," are you saying that the string is buzzing on open, and seems to be hitting the first fret because when you fret at the first fret it clears up? Or are you saying that when...

Re: Dumble Amplifiers

I dig the sound of the one in that video, but it definitely adds some credence to the claim I've heard that the Mesa Lone Star was loosely Dumble-esq in flavor. Those things are spectacular sounding...

Re: I've Got the World's Only 7-String DiMarzio PAF Pro?

I've since bought the pickup in the OP from webmaestro since he found something he liked more, and, embarrassingly, it's still sitting on my desk because I haven't had enough time to install it....

Re: Original Blaze II Pups??

No change in voicing between the 90s and today, correct? The bridge pickup in my PWH is going south (the bass side sounds like it's in parallel, treble side sounds normal) and I took the neck out...

Re: Pickup advice for J Custom

I like the PAF Pro in the neck of everything (and I have one in the neck of a mahogany 3120), and if you already like the Evolution in the bridge, it IS very nice in mahogany.

Re: Help me identify my JS

You posted a thread a little below on this one:

http://www.jemsite.com/forums/f15/help-me-date-ibanez-javascript-161049.html

There are a few things that don't add up on that guitar.

Re: How many JS's do you have?

Zero, lol. Wouldn't mind grabbing a white JS1000 at some point, but it'll desperately need a refret to jumbos.

Re: Data driven counterpoint to the proclaimed "Death of the electric guitar"

Fascinating how different the stories we all have are for what brought us to the guitar.

For me, part of it was definitely the "look" of the Strat and the fact that my "guitar heroes" all...

Re: Data driven counterpoint to the proclaimed "Death of the electric guitar"

...whereas for me, when I picked up the guitar, or I guess after Nirvana got me to start playing and I got good enough that I wanted to buy a better guitar, it was really Jimi and Stevie Ray that...

Re: Data driven counterpoint to the proclaimed "Death of the electric guitar"

Glen - if there was ever any doubt that we are two TOTALLY different people... I'm not sure if this is sarcasm or not, but the SG is probably my least favorite "classic" guitar design I've ever...

Re: Data driven counterpoint to the proclaimed "Death of the electric guitar"

I'm not sure if he took the deal, or if it was forced on him, to be honest. I'd love to know exactly how this went down, because this bears a strong resemblance to the deal he rejected a few days ago.

Re: Data driven counterpoint to the proclaimed "Death of the electric guitar"

Yeah, this was actually one of the top stories on the Bloomberg terminal this morning. I'm a little surprised it happened this quickly, but I don't think anyone is shocked about the outcome.

I...

Re: Data driven counterpoint to the proclaimed "Death of the electric guitar"

Disagree. The thing with a lawn is, SOMEONE has to mow it. You buy a lawnmower because if your child doesn't do it, you're going to.

You start with a Squier or an import Strat because you can get...

Re: Pulled the plug on an RT650 - What's it like?

HOT! I've always wanted one of those in blue.

Andy Timmons uses Cruiser bridge singlecoils, which you'd need a new pickguard to use, but his AT1 is a great sounding bridge pickup. I could see it...

Re: Waking up a dark/dull sounding mahogany RG

It's funny, if I've learned anything from this swap, it's that "attack" means different things to different people.

I actually found the PAF Pro way more dynamicly responsive and touch sensitive,...

Re: Data driven counterpoint to the proclaimed "Death of the electric guitar"

Oh, no, the argument I'm making is even simpler than that - I just don't see any convincing evidence the guitar industry is "dying." There's plenty of room for disruption, of course - there is in any...

Re: Data driven counterpoint to the proclaimed "Death of the electric guitar"

Eh, well this is all just academic conversation, since one way or another we're going to see what happens with guitar sales data over time. Based on what data we DO have, my projection is very...

Re: Data driven counterpoint to the proclaimed "Death of the electric guitar"

Jesus, don't make me choose. Based on sheer happiness alone, my guitar, though I'd be hard pressed to choose just one... Based on sheer all-around utility, though, I use my smartphone s LOT...

Re: Data driven counterpoint to the proclaimed "Death of the electric guitar"

Yeah, that was kind of the argument I was making - the decline in guitar sales could be related to a decline in the number of new players, theoretically, but also could just as plausibly be related...

Re: Data driven counterpoint to the proclaimed "Death of the electric guitar"

Actually, lo and behold, some of that data DOES exist:

Virtually all of that decline happened in the...

Re: Data driven counterpoint to the proclaimed "Death of the electric guitar"

I'd LOVE to see the underlying data behind that trend. Because, call me cynical, but the first place my mind goes is for an article written in mid-2017, the most recent full-year data available would...

Re: Data driven counterpoint to the proclaimed "Death of the electric guitar"

You should hear some of my earliest recordings, Mike, from 1999/2000, done in Sonic Foundry ACID 2.0. I was recording 30 seconds at a time because that was the longest my laptop could take, and...

Re: Data driven counterpoint to the proclaimed "Death of the electric guitar"

Re: Data driven counterpoint to the proclaimed "Death of the electric guitar"

A good friend of mine got into guitar because of Nikki Sixx. It wasn't until some time afterwards he realized he was a bassist, but by then the damage was done, lol.
