Re: Let's talk motorcycles.

That'd be true, except that most beginner drops are low or no speed affairs - driveways, parking lots, gravel. Not enough to hurt someone sharp enough to have gear on, but enough to wreck expensive...

Re: Let's talk motorcycles.

Try REAL hard to borrow from family or something. You can get a used Ninja500 in great shape for under $2000 to learn & practice on. Upright position, tough as nails, reliable, and fast enough to...

Re: Three questions about Carvin

They have different radii as options - 10, 12 (standard), 14, 20. But the compound radius is no longer offered. I have one; it was 12-15", and is awesome. Wish they still offered it.

Re: carvin guitars ?

No, the Carvin uses a smaller plate with tighter screw layout. The pocket is the same size, but overall it's a bit more comfy. Not on the level of an AANJ, but better than a Fender.

Re: Best pickup?

Yeah - since the end arbiter of a pickup's "quality" is sound, and that's a subjective thing, it's hard to say what's "better". After all, MOST mass produced pups made now absolutely blow away the...

Re: Are todays performers really giving it all live?

I respect the energy, but does "giving it all" have to equal "running around"? I mean, my fave shows have included ones with very little hyperactivity (DT, Ryche), and a few with it (Extreme).

Re: The S series guitar thread.

I just got the 540SFMTB from a guy here. Used to have one - love the axe.

Re: similar to a radius with 24 frets?

The 540R-LTD was a early 90's japanese radius with a wizard - but it was a 22 fret wizard.

Re: Hard Drives?

The interface does not matter on sustained transfers. Even the old ATA100 spec is faster than the drive hardware on sustained transfers, and audio is mostly like this because the files are large.

Re: Getting a stereo sound with one mic

Rip has specific ideas about what "stereo" means, but I think he's being restrictive.

IMO miking an acoustic in 2 places is no more "stereo" than using delay or chorusing techniques - both can...

Re: Super-wide guitar strap?

I like my Levy's leather one. Padded, soft leather.

Re: Getting a stereo sound with one mic

You could slightly delay or chorus one side, or stereo chorus both sides. Musically, you could vary the parts slightly. Or use a different sound - different pickup setting, amp setting, mic...

Re: ZOOM G7.1UT OR KORG 3000G?

The G2 has many fewer models and lacks the tube circuit of the G7.

The GNX is a totally different engine than the older RP models. For the same reason you shouldn't base a judgment of a G series...

Any reason you're not considering the Digitech GNX3000?

I love mine.

Re: Computer Gurus, need help

I'd stick with XP too, and definitely get more RAM. You can make XP run a bit leaner (about win2k level) by stopping unneeded services from running at startup. Google for XP and SERVICES and you...

Re: anyone know anything about wireless routers?

You might be able to get it off his PC using a program called ASTERWIN. That "unhides" passwords from under the dots. Google it.

Re: digital recorders

Many 16 tracks will do 8 at once. It's the smaller ones that generally give you only a stereo input. That's fine for building a solo project without live drums, but if you need drums...

Re: single coil humbuckers

If you mean stacked singles, they have more pull, because they typically use A5 polepieces like a real single - and that pulls more than the mag underneath the pickup like on a normal bucker.

If...

Re: My Son, Gavin John Hewson. Dec 29th, 2006 to Jan. 3rd 2007

You have my thoughts as well. A parent experiencing the death of his child is an unnatural thing. I hope you and your wife can find solace in each other.

Re: Question for Elixir strings users

It used to be that only the wound ones were coated. Now they do something to the plains as well, but it's not the same coating. IMO they don't last as long as the wound ones.

Really, they're a...

Re: locking nut for flatter radius?

Stew Mac has one that they list as 14" radius. I wonder if it's a typo.
