  1. Tech: Setup, Repairs and Mods
Hey there, folks! :) So, I was pretty new to trem systems at all when I got my RG1527 last summer (niiiice aaaaxe), but since then I was way more occupied with the setup than actually playing guitar. It also got quite expensive, so after a little vacation in favor of my nerves, but also before...

Hi I have a few ibanez's that comes stringed with 9 gauge strings. I believe they are Super Wizard Prestige necks measuring 17mm-19mm. I have thought of re stringing them with 10 gauges but are they recommended for such a thin neck like the Super Wizard Prestige? Should I just stick with 9 gauges?

Hey all. Used to own a 25.5" scale Ibanez premium 7 string. Got fed up with the low B string going sharp on the attack, tried bigger gauges but then found i hated how huge the string had to be to stop the problem. Ended up with big boomy mismatched low B. Ended up buying a premium 6 string...

Sup guys, I just bought an Ibanez Prestige RG4570z. It' a hell of a guitar and I'm very pleased with it, but one problem arised when I sent it to a guitar tech and changed string gauge from 0.009 (factory stocked) to 0.0095; now the tremolo arm is way too stiff (I've removed the ZPS3 system btw)...

Don't know why its taken so many years for this to become an issue. I have a light pick attack/ fretting hand as it is and play a 7 string with 9-42+56 gauge strings. I have noticed that when my guitar is in perfect tune (according to tuner) my wound E and B strings go noticeably sharp when i...

Despite what i understood about this subject, today i have been proven wrong. "Thicker strings tuned to the same pitch = less buzz" This makes perfect sense when taking the physics of the string into account. HOWEVER after switching a few times now between sets of 9-42 and 10-46 i can safely...

Hey all, i have spent hours sifting through forums and articles on this matter and have yet to find my answer!! Played ibanez RG 6 string guitars with 9-46 Hybrid Slinky sets on for years. Love them to bits. Recently the idea of 7 strings has jumped out at me and i have bought a cheap fixed...

I'm looking to start using coated strings to minimise how frequently I have to change them. I currently use and like D'addario XLs, so I'd like to give their coated strings a go. My problem is, they only seem to do an 11 - 49 gauge or 10 - 52, but I want something like 11 14 18 30 42 52 (I like...
  9. Tech: Setup, Repairs and Mods
I have always played 9-42 strings, but recently thought heavier may sound better. I've bought 10-46 regular sliknies and my rg 2550z seems not to accept them. I'm trying to tune i e standard but even when I set the max spring tension bridge bends like I'm doing a slight dive bomb and action is...

Hi everybody! it's been loooong since i visited this forum. there's something i want to ask: i've decided to change the tuning of my rg350 from E standard to D standard (been listening to symphony x for years, now it's time to try to play their songs). So far I've been using .9-42 string gauge...

Hello guys. I have RG370DX I am going to upgrade my strings from (Daddario EKXL120 Super Light Tremolo 9-42) to (Daddario EXL116 Medium Top / Heavy Bottom 11-52). I have asked some friends, and they told me that probably the tremolo won't be able to handle it and the LOW E won't fit either...

i recently got a 1989 ibanez rg570. i belive the string guage is 9-42, cuz it feels way to thin. what do you think is the highest guage the neck could stand?

im getting an rg750 very soon and im planning to replace the strings as soon as i get it. im thinking about daddario 11-52 or dean markley 11-52 gauge. I will be playing in standard gauge frequently. is this too much for the neck? will i break it?

Hi. To the thing. I would like to donwtune a lot to B. My dilema is what string gauges. 12 or 11 is not enough. One need to have equal tension on all strings. I am mostly worrying about neck of my XPT700. I am afraid of neck-whirl. I have seen nice tension article here on Jemsite but not with...

Hi guys, Recently, I sent my Ibanez RG Prestige 2550EGK (with Edge Pro trem) to the luthier for a tune-up. The guy told me that he don't sells the strings gauge light 009-042 because it makes the guitars too difficult to adjust. Since I needed the guitar fast, we agreed to install Custom Light...

I was wondering: 009-042 tuned E vs 010-046 tuned E, same trem height and amount of neck bow. Do thicker strings need to be tightened a bit more to achieve the same tuning? If so, I would guess this affects things like fret rattle (in a positive way)?

Got a problem and figured I'd ask the wise folks at Jemsite for some advice. I bought a guitar recently that has huge frets (6100 I think, almost a scalloped kinda feel), and its my first guitar with big frets. I'm used to much smaller ones, so I'm having trouble with bending/pressing notes out...
