Is there a direct replacement for an EL84? I have an amp that uses EL84's and I was wondering if another tube could be substituted to give the amp a different flavor. It's a low wattage(5 watts) tube amp with a single 12ax7 preamp tube and a single el84. Any ideas?

I'm actually contemplating putting this up for sale, and decided to take some photos first, after having a bit of a play ofcourse. I haven't been in a band for a very long time, and I no longer need such a loud head. I'm more than happy with my Pod XT pro & BBE sonic maximiser. Anyway, here...

I was surfing the other day, and stumbled across a thread in another forum dealing with building your own clone amp from parts or available kits. I was curious, so I surfed a little more. There's a LOT of stuff out there for the Do-It-Yourself amp builder. Places like Ceria Tone, Metro Amp, and...

I'm not looking strictly for metal/hard rock here, but something that's nasty enough to do strong instrumental and alternative rock - think Satch on 'Mind Storm' or 'Lights of Heaven', or bands like Brand New, Nine Inch Nails and Thrice. Heavy, crunchy-but-clear distorted low end and extremely...

Anyone have any suggestions for good low wattage (12-25 watt range) tube amps that are reasonably priced? The amp would be used for playing live gigs in small clubs with a mic in front of the amp. Music styles are blues, rock, classic rock and some old school heavy metal every now and then.

i have been thinking of one of these. i think the 50watt will be more than enough. i have not owned a head in years...just preamp racks into my BBE processor and 50/50 mesa amp. killer sound but i really dig paul gilbert's tone and he used nothing but the laney GH100L on the last 2 albums...

Hey guys looking for a new practice amp soon and would like to see what you guys like out there. Looking for 15 to 25 amps with reverb. Effects added would be ok too so if you have any suggestions please list them so I can make some final decisions. Amp will be used primarily for a little of...

Seems to me that there is not much need for the 100-120watt monster tube amps with half stacks anymore.( At least for the local muscian) With PA or POD like gear, at every venue it seems over kill to have 200lbs of gear when you can run a 1x12 combo into a PA and sound just as good. I have a...

Just wanted to ask if everyone here in the forum uses tube amps if you don't and use solid state let me know why and what manufacturer you are using. Was your decision based on tone, clean and drive channel or other. All information would be great. Armando

Okay, i'm thinking of buying a new amp. After looking at the Mode Four and deciding against it, i'm looking for another head/4x12" around £1000~ I've put it up to 2 different Marshalls so far (but you can suggest your own brands. Word of warning though, i'm not fond of Solid-states) A Marshall...

Ok here is the deal. I have been looking for a decent amp for a good metal tone but tubes are just too loud for living in an apartment. After allot of research I have rules out modeling amps because I don’t want a bunch of sounds I want a rock and metal sound only for now. I have a little...

Hello all, I just recieved my Legacy head from Carvin today.  After about 3 hours of play testing I'm just a little disappointed.  It's got a very good tone, sounds a whole lot better than my old setup (boss metalzone paired with boss 7 band eq) but i'm not sure if its what I've been looking...

Hi guys. I have some doubts that always seem to arise when you are going to buy new gear...... Now what I'm looking for is a good distorted tone for practicing at home. I'll explain a bit better.... I don't have the money nor definitely need a Legacy full stack..., what i want is something who...
