Anyone got any idea how the hell Satch manages to get so much sustain without the use of a fernades? He seems to hit a harmonic and it lasts forever....

I've agreed to join this guy's live band, and if he finds the remaining musicians he needs, I'll need a head (as most bands are ok with you borrowing cabs, but not heads). I imagine I probably won't be able to stretch further than about £250 (about $500). I'm mainly thinking of Line 6 Spider III...

Do you use the same amps for gigs, practicing and recording or do you have different amps for different purposes. How about one tube amp for all those different objects. If you use your 50 or 100 Watt amp at home how do you handle that? Would you say that is overkill if one is mainly playing at...

Ive seen on the forums a bit about distorsion, something regarding overdriving the pre amp and power output. To get a better distortion its better to run harder the power output right? How does this work? I have a peavey JSX, so would running the power output harder meaning having the master...

I have been thinking about buying a new amp and I was thinking about getting either a JSX combo or a Legacy half stack. Then, I came upon the Fender G-DEC. Which one should I get? Please help, Thanks!

I have no idea about tubes, and I was wondering if the number of preamp tubes has anything to do with the amount of gain in an all-tube amp. I'm thinking of getting a low-wattage combo to experience 'the real thing' (always been a SS user). I'd like a nice, heavy tube distortion at low...

Hi guys.. I have to tell you, I'd been playing with this Tech 21 Tri Od, and just Friday night my brother who also has one, and has a PRS 1001 Ten Top and I jammed thru a big set of cabs with power amps and I can't tell you how TUBE like these things sound.. They have a Fender Tweed, British and...

Hi everyone, I've been a Satch fan from the late 80's and although I have pretty much his gear I still don't have his sound completely nailed. So my question is what is the core of his sound? DS-1 + DD-2 + JS? Although he uses a lot of pedals in different songs, which are his primary ones...

For me, I run a Tubescreamer into a JCM 800...both have a moderate amount of distortion, but put together, they can produce some pretty high gain at relatively low volumes...at higher volumes, I usually eliminate the Tubescreamer.

I recently went to a music store, looking for a 5150. One of the salesmen at the store told me not to buy the 5150 combo because of its construction, that the amp has to be literally opened up to change the tubes. He said it's a big job and that the amp is a pain to service. Is this true? If...

hi guys! here's my case. i have a carvin sx-200d which is too loud for my current use. so im planning to go down to a lesser power amp and thinking of trading my current amp for 2 30-50w amps. which amps you guys think will be good for the trade? the stores in my city mainly have marshall...

I have a Marshall TSL601 combo and Gibson Angus Young SG, however I cannot seem to dial in a good metal sound from it. It sounds muddy rather than crisp, and I cannot get a good 'chunk' for Rhythm either. Any settings or opinions on this amp will be gratefully received. Thanks :D

Ha ha ha...I just realized, the 80's aren't old school to some people in here. Well, I'm 17 so to me the 80's is as old school as it gets. Still, I believe more than anything that the 80's had the best shred guitar players there ever were, I mean, the best now came from then. So the point of...

Im seriously considering one of these amps! But at 35w is it going to be loud enough for gigging? Peoplehave told me that these amops are LOUD but 35w seems a bit small, i might have to consider the mk50. Can anyone give me and advice from experience or otherwise? Thanks Al

So it took about a year and a half, and I'm almost back to where I started! Early in 2002 I assembled a rack rig that consisted of a Triaxis preamp, G-major FX unit, 2:90 power amp, and Johnson 2x12 cabinet, plus a couple pedals (MIDI controller, wah, overdrive). I used it for gigs...

If I had a 100 watt tube marshall, and a 100 watt tube peavey or boogie, would they be the same loudness?

Hello all, I'm a little confused by all this tube hooplah and this mysticism surrounding power tube distortion without any hard details. I searched ALL over, and to no avail, so I turn to you I own a Marshall JCM2000 DSL401 combo, and basically, on overdrive, there is a gain, channel...

Most of you who have known me through Jemsite for the last few years will know that i don't have a lot to say about amps. I generally find them to rob too much signal from my guitar and processing, so i prefer to go direct whenever possible. Well, this past weekend, we had a gig with three...
