OK who has actually improved in the last 20 years? Ok ignore the time frame & TASTE factor but its got me thinking, the wonder of youtube lets ..me watch every cool guitar video I never saw when growing up. Everyone I can think of since they released their first release, have they actually...
I have been trying for some time to master a technique and well...its taking ages. I was just actually wondering if it is actually possible to do.
When you have a piece of fast music e.g petrucci or vai, i find that moving the pick from string to string rather hard.
For example, if i am...

Does Allan Holdsworth do any sort of alternate picking runs? I have seen/heard about his amazing legato but have never heard about him doing any alternate picking. Any other players that mainly use a legato approach?
He does the get out of my yard arpeggio's in it looks like standard tuning with complete cleanness which is insane, I've watched a few of his vids but he is pretty damn good.
anyone got any tips/tricks for right hand legato or other stuff like 8 finger tappin?
Anything is appreciated :P
(Darin- has my spelling (or spellin') improved :D?)
Thanks for your help
Just out of curiosity, how do all of you get your fingers warmed up (If you do at all =P) before you play?
I usually just move some nine chords around the neck and run up and down the chromatic scale, but lately Im getting hungry for some more Ideas
Let's hear 'em! =D
I know, I know, Satch, Vai, Malmsteen, Gilbert, blah blah blah blah blah, they all bring the same bag, sometimes cool tunes with mildly impressive licks... I'm not saying I can play them, but I am saying everytime I go to the guitar store there are at least a couple people that can. I wanna...

A few years ago, I sat down with an EJ Tab book and learned Cliffs of Dover...mostly. It took weeks to commit it to memory, and I bagged it at about 10 secs from the end of the songs. It wasn't quite up to speed, EJ's style is so...
I've noticed that lately my style has changed a bit - I'm playing more wide intervals and outside notes. I haven't studied this at all, and it's not a conscious decision, but it's taking my playing in a jazzier, Brett Garsed kind of direction. I don't really listen to Brett much and wouldn't...
Try doing this in a loop starting out slow and building up speed. It gives my left hand a major work out since it's on the lower strings and lower on the fretboard.
..... to get the edge pro trem level on action height? what i mean is should the height on either stud be identical or is ok if the treble side is lower than the bass side... if its uneven would it cause problems with the tremolo operation?
Ive been wrighting music mostly for myself for about 15 years. I have had one or two pieces for orchestra, string trio and choir performed... and I have lots of guitar music for steel string, classical and electric that I have recorded or written down... For example Im currently mid...
I just flew home and had a brand new Caparison Horus waiting for me. It was the first time I had ever seen one in person, much less actually played one.
I liked it so much that I bought another one. I just haven't ever played a guitar that felt like this Caparison before.
The action was set a...
After learning some of Satch's stuff, I've started working on my legato technique way more than I used to. I really dig the smooth sound of it and would like to find more players that are really good at legato, so could you guys help me out? Who out there is just sick at legato, and what...
It's kind of a random post, but i'm curious; i'm able to have my index finger on the first fret, and easily reach the 6th fret with my pinky, and the 7th fret with some effort. My friends that see this think it's really odd, but for me it's normal. So my question; is it normal? Is it a good thing?
people say hes a shred head... but the only "shred" ive heard him play is probably legato, and the occasional arpeggio (mystical potato head groove thing). is there any songs/videos in which he alternate picks? (or as most teenage guitar playing wannabes would say, Shreds?)
