Hey there! I'm new to this forum and I have a question: I recently bought an RG1527 and want to change the neck PU (99% of the time I only use the neck PU). I'm mostly playing progressive rock/metal and I especially like the tone of Tony MacAlpine (Planet X, Chromaticity, Devil's Slingshot...

Hey folks, thought this would be of interest to the fine folks here at Jemsite. Ever wanted to have a one-on-one guitar lesson with Tony MacAlpine? Now's your chance! Tony is taking bookings for lessons for a very limited time between late September/mid October. Whether you want to explore...

Hey folks. This week I interviewed Tony MacAlpine about his new band, Seven The Hardway. It was a cool interview and Tony talked a lot about the new band, his Ibanez 8-string, and playing with the heavy metal cover band Hail! at the G-Taranaki festival in New Zealand this week. You can check...

I thought something like this was going to happen after he put a few of his main Carvins on the market a few months ago. His site says he'll be playing Ibanez 6, 7 and 8-strings. Cool! Welcome to Ibanez Tony! http://www.iheartguitarblog.com/2009/07/news-tony-macalpine-switches-to-ibanez.html

I don't know how relevant it is, but T-Mac has jumped the Carvin ship and started pimpin' Ibanez... The guy is brilliant whatever he plays though.

Ive got an 04 Jem7VWH. Used but not abused. A couple mods I have been done: 1. Bridge pickup replaced with a SD Custom5 2. Had a blend pot installed. 3. Tremol-no installed. Heres a link to the Blend Pot wiring explanation: http://www.guitartechcraig.com/techwire/tech16.jpg Pics: (The back...

Well, I just picked up Paul Gilbert's new album and I really like it. I actually sat in my car when I got home until I made it through the entire album. Nice to have an entirely instrumental album from Paul. I have always been impressed by his fret board prowess and it is fun to see him...

I suspect a bunch of us know, met, was in a room with, did work for, gave a lesson to, or jammed with someone notable/famous. I thought it would be fun to have a thread dedicated to the purpose of 'bragging' about it. ;) This could be fun to watch. I'll go first. I know the Fuel guys...

I went to Megadeth yesterday in Paradiso Amsterdam. Great show! First time I saw new Megadeth guitarplayer Chris Broderick. I was surprised to see he's an Ibanez player. And what a great guitar he plays! It's a 7 string purple quilted custom with a reverse headstock. Nice! Loved his playing...

"Back in the day" we had the guys like Satch and Vai, and Nuno and George Lynch, plus guys like Scott Ian from Anthrax and the guys from Metallica and Megadeth. But... Who are the guys that the 15 year olds want to grow up to be? The UK guitar magazine try to convince us it's Trivium and...

It kills me to see that none of the very well known guitar virtuosos started their carreers not too long ago. Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert, Greg Howe, Tony Macalpine, Richie Kotzen, Allan Holdsworth, Jimmy Page, Reb Beach.... etc all started 2 or 3 decades ago. IMO the newer guitarists...

I had someone ask me today what songs I played along with that helped my playing get better. I'm not talking about what tone you like or who you like to listen to. I'm talking about who did you sit and play to for hours & hours in the "woodshed" to develop your style. Tell who and why you...

I'm curious on who prefers finger based vibrato vs. using their trem to do vibrato? As a hardtail player, its weird for me to do anything besides fingers for vibrato.

Maybe this is common but i`ve never seen it! Saw a nice Yamaha guitar today at a music store that had a Floyd type of bridge with fine tuners and a regular (plastic?) nut. Anyone ever see this on a guitar? It was a very nice guitar, one of the older RGX models from the 90s i guess but the more i...

I know, I know, Satch, Vai, Malmsteen, Gilbert, blah blah blah blah blah, they all bring the same bag, sometimes cool tunes with mildly impressive licks... I'm not saying I can play them, but I am saying everytime I go to the guitar store there are at least a couple people that can. I wanna...

just picked this up off itunes a few days ago. each time i buy something i say i will never buy a Vai album again but yet i keep going for more. All in all, I have to say the first half is very good, a live album with the Attitude song, etc etc. with the violins, etc. the last half of the...
