Hot off the presses this evening - a 7 string Destroyer made of mahogany, korina and leopardwood. I just finished cutting it out and doing a rough sanding on the sides. Thought I would show you all what's in store.
It's going to have a Dimarzio D-Sonic 7 string pup in the bridge and a PAF7 pup in the neck. I ended up going with the pup configuration that the Destroyers have mainly kept to, which is two humbuckers. However, I'd love to do a humbucker in the brdige and two singles - one in the middle and one angled at the neck.
I've got a Hipshot 7 string bridge in black. It should help set this thing off pretty well.
I need to decide whether to do 3 knobs or 4 knobs. I cut the cavity to accomodate 4. Also need to drill holes for the switch, the output jack and the wiring, but that's it.
I'm going to be doing some necks next. I've got a few other customers at the moment needing some necks, so that's next up on the list. I'm probably going to be doing a 5 piece neck for this beast with maple and purpleheart.
I know you can't see it really all that well but the leopardwood looks awesome! The lighting that I had to take these pics wasn't all that great. Like I said, I just finished up and it's dark out.
Anyways, I wanted to show you all one of the things that I'm working on. I know there's been a fair amount of talk about a 7 string Explorer or Destroyer. I've wanted to do one for a good while as well, and today I did.
I don't know if I'll get to doing anything else with this body tomorrow or not. I've got quite a bit of other stuff to tackle, so it might be Thursday or Friday before I can mess with it and get some tung oil on it. I can't wait to see this thing all sanded up with some tung oil on it.
Anyways, enjoy the pics.
