purchased both of them this year....
the 8570Z has a great mahogany/maple tone (exactly as you'd expect from an RG J-Custom)
however, the 8520 has a bit more of a compressed tone, but with same body materials...

yes the bridges are different (ZPS for the 8570 and lo pro edge for the 8520), and but i've swapped the bridge p/up on the 8520 for Dimarzio TZ.

other than general wood tolerances/variances, any idea as to why the difference in tone (acoustic and plugged in):confused:

No two guitars are the same, especially when they are different, though very similar models. As the person playing these guitars, you will experience the unique subtitles of each instrument in vivid detail. These variations are useful because they will suggest slightly different musical ideas which can grow into completely different ideas down the road.

Weight often plays a role regrading how loud an electric guitar will sound acoustically. The difference in weight needs to be rather drastic though, 1-2 lbs.

Those are 2 nice guitars to be able to switch between to the differences by the way. Congrats!
