My desire is to create a deep defined death metal guitar tone...ie articulate defined tonal bass buzz....now which magnet based pickup will help me create this?alnico or ceramic?

the magnet is part of the overall pickup design, is better to try finding the right pickup for you and not the other way (find the magnet).

Ceramic tends to be more articulated with a faster attack, but as I say it depends a lot of the overall pickup design.

In general ceramic magnet based pickups will probably be what you are after.
