I guys,
I don't mean to start another Axe-FX thread, I'm just trying to understand the true worth of the Axe vs other high-end units when it comes to tone!
So the fact is that recently I saw a demo used E570 for about 1400 eur which is 300 eur cheaper than the Axe-Fx and 800 eur cheaper than the Axe-Fx Ultra.
The Engl E570 is the pre-amp of the ENGL Special Edition head which is currently the flagship head of the ENGL line. I've seen some videos on youtube and it seems to sound killer!
Problem is finding one of these in a shop where you can try it out.. it seems to be incredibly versatile! On the other hand it's very difficult to grab the Axe-Fx for a spin without ordering it first within the 30 day return policy.
I suppose it might come down in the end to whether you prefer dialing in sounds with knobs or changing numeric parameters in an unit...
So is the Axe worth the extra money ? I mean probably it can't be beaten for versatility and studio usage given the amount of amps it can emulate but the Engl is the real deal all tube pre-amp...
Or maybe I should just stick to my Pod ... lol!
